Nice, maximum deal , first of the new Scholars , I think , to sign pro and given that 7 Scholars were external , plus Justin Clarke , you’d expect all 8 to be given pro contracts when they’re 17 as part of the signing agreement.

For once you could be right. In a couple of years Doug will be 19 , as will George Pickford who’s about 8 months older , so he could well be 2nd choice to Pickford for the u21s.

I remember seeing Albert Dunlop play a few games for Wrexham in the mid 60’s and my biggest memory of Andy Rankin is him saving that penalty against Munchengladbach and having to hitch hike home as it went on so long I missed the last train!

Tbf in the entire history of the PL there's only been about 7 keepers to have made their debut post 92 (because that's when football started of course) and gone on to make 50 PL appearances for the club they were an academy graduate for.

It is insanely rare and difficult to do, probably the hardest thing in football. The only keeper in the past 10 years to have done it is Robert Sanchez
