“I play for Chelsea” sounds sexier than Everton. Which is what these kids say to people. Even though they actually don’t play for those clubs.

The saddest part is agents, who are actual adults who look out for these kids don't have a proper conversation.

That being said, I can imagine the lads wages went from say 5k to say 25k with a sign on? He basically secures his future by the time he's 21. That must be tempting.
 
I didn't realise that. I thought we pushed him out for cash.

It's a dumb choice. No idea why anyone would go to Chelsea.

And as I said at the time, Small made a stupid decision.
Last year you can probably excuse it and think maybe they had a plan TBF. Anyone going there now is a bit of a concern you'd think. Was reading yesterday a highly rated kid from Palace's academy has just made the switch to them and you have to wonder why
 
If he didn't sign the contract then Chelsea wouldn't have needed to pay 4 million. Those two statements don't align. It would've gone to tribunal.
When a player of that age leaves after refusing to sign a contract the club is entitled to compensation, it often goes to arbitration but in this instance Chelsea and Everton agreed on 4m.

If ISS had stayed he may well be in the first team by now. Strange how things work out.
