So what should we be expecting from Jensen Metcalfe ?

Not a lot this season if you’re looking at first team minutes. For me he’s our best prospect at u21s , but he’s not someone you’ll see setting the park alight with a mazy dribble or thunderbolt goal. He's all about pitch intelligence, being in the right place, playing the right short ball when necessary but one of his strengths is his first time long ball from deep to create an attack. He fitted in well with Gomes the other night, but being one of our best u21 prospects still means he‘s got a long way to go. He signed a 4 year contract last year , unusual for someone that young, so somebody rates him highly.

He's one of the few that Brands mentioned by name too. For whatever that's worth.

Feels like the approach with youngsters has been far more pragmatic in the last few months. If they might be good enough, e.g. Dobbin, then get them in the squad. If we don’t think they’re good enough, e.g. Cannon or Simms, then sell them for a decent price. Much improved from the days of Unsworth and giving the likes of Pennington new contracts when they were never going to be first team players here.

Be interesting to see the strength of the 21s side tomorrow vs Feyenoord. Branthwaite and Gueye are back but Doucoure now a doubt. Could mean a young bench again or it could mean they drop down to 21s to olay a full 90 and we have 7 on the bench with 4 keepers

With 2 keepers in the squad for a home tie it's surely that he's carrying a knock because even if we have 4 attackers on the bench he still stands a higher chance of getting on over Lonergan. If anyone got hurt in warm up he could've jogged over to goodison!
