Everton Youth Teams Thread

Some of the decisions regarding the younger players is bizarre, especially when we have such a thin squad

Need to be making use of these younger players effectively right now, as we’re not going to be signing many players

I'm absolutely baffled by Mills and Warrington leaving. The squad is so threadbare in numbers currently and lacks such quality in depth that I don't think it would have been long before these were getting minutes/coming on a sub.

Realistically our first 11 will be

Pickford
Patterson
Tarkowski
Keane
Young
Doucoure
Gana or Onana
Garner
 Damjuma
Mcneil
Maupay (until DCL is fit)

Which leaves a bench to choose from

Virginia
Coleman
Godfrey
Brathwaite
Mykolenko
Onana
Iwobi
Gray
DCL

4 defenders will end up taking slots until more options are provided

A Mills or Warrington wouldn't go amiss as an option from bench.

Onyango was higher rated at youth levels than Warrington so he can just get the token minutes and Dobbin is better than Mills. Ultimately none of them would actually be called upon though so whether they're called Mills, Warrington, Dobbin, Onyango, Kouyate, Okoronkwo or Lonergan is pretty immaterial

Would you have had Antonee Robinson back here?

….just checked, looks like I would never have sent him on loan;

If the manager doesn’t fancy them it’s better for them to be out playing somewhere.

It's just hindsight. Is he better than Mykolenko? Probably. Should we regret selling him in 2019? Nah - we just should have signed better than Mykolenko when Digne left.

….the point is, he shouldn’t have gone on loan. He looked a real talent and we had no back-up LB despite Baines starting to get injuries. Had he stayed, he’d have got plenty of games that season. Who knows, the club might not have needed Digne. If I remember rightly, we then had Baines & Digne, so the back-up requirement had gone.

He was one we can say got away but to be fair, not many do.
