Just read that. It’s a pretty in-depth article which makes sad reading not just about ISS.

Thelwell gets a lot of stick around Maupay/ lack of signings, he’s made positive changes in the u21/Academy structure but he’s swimming against the tide if we’re now declaring open season on our young prospects to any club with money. I can shrug my shoulders and move on if the scenario is we lost our most promising youngster but managed to get £4 mill for him , a scenario where we are now opening the doors and inviting offers, as suggested, is dispiriting.

Yep this one stings a lot more than a Lawrence or a Small because its probably the one youngster who actually wanted to be here and the club have sold him anyway. The more that gets reported the more I feel like Thelwell will never be viewed fairly because he has maybe the most thankless job in football right now. The academy getting stripped for parts removes any sort of optimism at any level at this point

No but we would've offered/agreed a pro deal last year when the scholarship was sorted. He made it pretty clear though that the club needed the money unlike when others left

The issue was we have no money. To paint this as a typical 'greedy youngster' narrative is ridiculous given what has been widely reported

I'm not trying to paint that narrative.

The narrative is, that younger players will not be fobbed off with poor contracts, and Everton have a manager who does not play youngsters. So we have this difficult spot between whether to pay them not to play, or let them go.

I think the club needs to wake itself up to the reality of the world, and they we are losing our best talent most years now.

The cash crisis exacerbates this.

There's no doubt in my mind that following what the athletic and Bobble have said that we would have sold this boy whether he wanted 30 grand a year or 30 grand a week. The issue is we desperately need 4 million cash much more than we need ISS next season. I imagine we would be selling all our prospects all the way down from the way Boyland has wrote, it sounds like nobody at the club is off limits.

I think you are right branthwaite cannon, mills Warrington will all go if money comes in there is a good chance dyche will not play any of the above so all fair game unfortunately

I think the specific issue with us offering him a contract, is he wanted a quite big contract.

Of course the bigger issue brings up a whole range of other things.

I keep reading that Dyche doesn’t give youth a chance. Can anyone tell me a successful youth that Dyche didn’t play but has become successful?

Just because at Burnley I sense they didn’t have the pick of youth players available.

Had he had a Rooney and refused to play him then I understand the point made. But otherwise it’s just b@llocks and typical Everton bashing!!!
