….funny how folk see things differently but ISS is a definite LB for me. i get the impression he plays in 2nd gear, nothing spectacular because it’s relatively easy for him. Never a moments panic, the good ones all look like they have time on the ball & he knocked some lovely passes down the line. From what I gathered on commentary, he was up against on of their best. Looks a class act to me.
Not surprised Mills did well on the bleep test with his brother being a top international runner. He’s the type of wide player I like, good size, brilliant athleticism, terrific attitude, decent quality & totally uncomplicated. I like uncomplicated. Notice the Leicester commentator saying he was one of the best players in PL2.
It is interesting how we all see things differently, it makes this such a good thread with differing opinions. I’m closer to you re ISS, and see the things that you mentioned. I watched him closely last night , he was composed, showed good judgement knowing when to move forward to make an interception, his body shape was good when the guy was attacking him , his tackling and recovery were good too , indeed his tackle was the last touch of the match. I was impressed with his concentration for one so young, often youngsters switch off in the second half as they get tired but he didn’t. He has a mature reading of the play, even PL full backs will be beaten by speedy wingers at times and need help from other defenders, I thought he ensured that if he was beaten their player wasn’t offered a clear route to goal. There were of course mistakes and areas to work on, he’s still very much a work in progress, I certainly don’t see him as a regular first team squad member next season.
Where he ends up playing is the question. I’ve been impressed with him as the left centre back in a three when playing for England, he’s ideal there but that limits his options. He doesn’t have the physical build of a
Branthwaite yet to be a CB in a four, or the pace of a Dixon as a full back. At 16 though he‘s got time to grow. Like
@EFC_FRANCIS I was comparing him with Lewis Gibson who got shunted out of the England squad by more physically powerful defenders, but ISS is a player we really should be developing . Maybe we shouldn’t be stereotyping our players into “ full backs must have lots of pace, CBs must be huge”, look at what City do with the likes of Rico Lewis.
