Having seen him in 3 matches so far I reckon Holgate is far too talented on the ball to be either a CH or a RB. For me he's the new Trevor Steven.
.....wow.

i don't know why people are thinking they're experts on a player they've seen very little, when the people managing him and who have played him in cb and rb for years know his position......wow.

He is a center half, and can do a job at right back again, he hasn't been developed as anything else, sure he's comfortable on the ball but so is stones and you wouldn't play him anywhere but center half.
Its a bit crazy tbh, he's good in HIS position, he even struggled at right back last night because of lack of pace, never mind any other position.
I think Holgate will make a very good cb, who can play out from the back comfortably, he also looked good going forward from right back.. but the winger for sunderland was very pacy, and he struggled with that.....I haven't seen enough of him other than his debut v the Pool. He looked ok other than a clear mistake for their penalty. I agree, it's good that defenders are comfortable on the ball but the fundamental requirement is that they can also defend. Concerned if the lad lacks pace.
A lot of managers like their young CB's to play FB to help them to learn the game.Just seen it cheers.ya holgate is definitely more centre half than full back.seems martinez likes his centre halfs to be able to play full back as well.
Ya especially when your going with a back 3 i suppose they need to feel comfortable out there.A lot of managers like their young CB's to play FB to help them to learn the game.
one thing i did note up on, although our passing is pretty good for the most part, and we keep possession quite well.
We asbolutely don't create enough chances, whether that is to do with players wanting to impress individually or the inability to spot the runs quick enough, we don't get it to our forward players fast enough, or spot their runs, which can be quite a let down.
maybe, i think it's more to do with how we play then consistency mate, as a lot of the players will have been playing with eachother for years anyway. As the team is constantly changing it is probably hard to build up an understanding that will encourage creative play.
BTW , how did Gibson do and does he look fit ?

Gibson was quite poor, he looked unfit and wasn't really him self, but he hasnt played for months so i guess that'd be why.
Where did I say I was an expert? Just passing an opinion. As you say he lacks pace. He's also short for an English CB. What I have seen from him is not just being comfortable on the ball but also being able to just glide past players and see an early ball. hence my opinion.i don't know why people are thinking they're experts on a player they've seen very little, when the people managing him and who have played him in cb and rb for years know his position.
