Out of 10 -- 1 being utter-tosh.

Everton (Team Rating - 6)

GK: Howard - 6: Did well today, not at fault for the goal, made a few decent saves when required.
RB: Neville - 6: Not a threat at all down the right apart from the worldy of a cross for Jagielka's goal. Solid but not spectacular on his 500th Premiership appearance. Great block when Kone had a chance to equalise.
CB: Jagielka - 7: Another very good performance - key player for us at the back. Absolutely magnificent header for the second goal.
CB: Distin - 6: Not spectacular but solid enough. At fault for the goal and fell asleep a few times during the game.
LB: Baines - 7: He really is brilliant. All you can say. Consistent as ever and made a great block in the first half.
RM: Osman - 8: Best player on the pitch today in the second half but went missing out wide in the first, much more comfortable when he was able to have a real effect on the game from the middle. Held our midfield together in the second half and deserved his goal.
CM: Gibson - 6: Looked a bit shaky in the first 10 minutes (which is rare) but settled into the game and was running midfield for us by half time. He's got a reoccurrence of an earlier thigh strain, which is worrying.
CM: Hitzlesperger - 5: Played OK but fell asleep a few times in the first half. Had a decent start to the second half finalised with that brilliant shot - stared falling asleep again after though, and was taken off at the right time by Moyes. Got overrun by Wigan's middle three on occasions.
LM: Pienaar - 6: Didn't show his form from West Ham but got about well and caused Wigan problems. Worked hard but lacked the final ball to get through Wigan's solid three at the back.
ST: Anichebie - 5: Didn't really do much but still caused Wigan some problems. Had a few attempts but was tired in the second half. Had a great chance after thirty seconds but ballooned the shot.
ST: Jelavić - 6: Didn't play as badly as he did at West Ham but still not up to standard. Fluffed a great opportunity and got frustrated at himself afterwards. Showed some good link up with Naismith later on and still put shift in. Some lovely flick on's early on and would have at least hit the target with the chance that fell to Anichebie in the first minute.

Subs:
Naismith - 7: Came on for the injured Gibson allowing Osman to re-locate to the centre of midfield. Had his best 45 minutes in an Everton shirt and linked up well with a struggling Jelavić. Had a few half chances but Wigan defended well.
Heitinga - 5: Didn't look comfortable at all in defensive midfield and the defence ended up sitting deeper in the last 10 minutes as Heitinga moved back to a sweeper position. Tried hard but hasn't been up to it this season.
Oviedo - 6: Came on for Anichebie and once again showed that he is capable of playing in the Premiership in a more advanced role on the left. Defended well and linked up with Baines and Pienaar when attacking. Good pace and provided an out-ball for the Everton defence when needed. Booked.

Manager: David Moyes - 7: Astute subs when needed with Naismith and Oviedo.

Wigan (Team Rating - 6)
GK:Al-Hasbi - 6: Decent game. Not at falut for either goal.
RWB:Stam - 5: Never threatened down the right.
CB:Boyce - 6: Defended well and got Stam out of trouble a few times. Prevented Baines and Pienaar running riot down the left flank.
CB:Caldwell - 6: Defended solidly against Anichibie and Jelavić and organised his team well. Out-jumped by Jagielka for Everton's second goal. Booked.
CB:Figueroa - 6: Another steady performance and pushed forward well. Booked.
LWB:Beausejour - 7: Did well all game and looked threatening, putting some dangerous deliveries into the box. Caused Neville problems all game and stopped Osman playing in the first half. Got well forward in the second half but wasn't used by his teammates. Booked.
Jones - 7: Did his job brilliantly sitting in midfield. Played very well in the first half but tired in the second as was subbed.
McArthur - 6: Nothing spectacular but kept things ticking over for Wigan in midfield, making up for a below-par McCarthy.
McCarthy - 5: Some good passes in the middle but didn't play well. Suffering from an ankle injury and it was evident - took a few knocks as well - an off-day for a talented player.
Maloney - 7: Didn't get on the ball much in the first half apart from a good free-kick but improved in the second half. Had a decent penalty shout turned down after Osman clipped his trailing leg and ran the game for the next ten minutes. Caused problems throughout.
Kone - 6: Put a lot of effort in and got his reward with a late goal. He controlled the ball with his hand although he did well to capitalise on the slack Everton defending. Had a great chance midway through the second half but his close-range shot was blocked superbly by Neville.

Subs:
Di Santo - 6: Always seems to play well against The Toffees and was a threat after coming on in the second half to replace Jones. Caused initial problems for Everton defence eventually leading to Kone's goal.
Jordi Gomes - 4 Didn't have an effect on game.

Manager: Roberto Martinez - 6: Set up his team to defend but Wigan had a very good shape which was hard to penetrate and the three midfielders often overran the Everton two before Heitinga came on, and looked threatening when going forward as a unit. Good substitution with Di Santo.

Referee: Lee Mason - 7: Good decision for the penalty and kept his cards in his pocket for as long as he could and let a poor game flow as much as possible. Missed a blatant handball but sloppy Everton defending left a lot to be desired!

Howard - 7 - Confused me at the time as to why he was parrying instead of catching, but perilous conditions so he went safety first. Not bad today.

Neville - 6 - Par for the course for Nev. It was hilarious in the second half when he nearly fell over himself when running with the ball because he didn't know how to play football properly! But other than that he was OK enough, but if everyone was fit he shouldn't be near the side.

Distin - 5 - Frustrating, because he played quite well but was ridiculously at fault for their goal where he got the basics wrong, and he always looked like he was ready to drop a clanger at any moment. Still a better option than Heitinga in defence though.

Jagielka - 8 - One of our star performers today. Good positioning, great header for the goal which knocks him up from a 7 to an 8 for me.

Baines - 7 - I don't think I'll ever score Baines lower than a 7. Always does a job.

Osman - 8 - He was bullied out of the game in the first half but shone in the second. A toss up for man of the match between him and Pienaar.

Gibson - 7 - Not at his best but did what was required of him defensively to a good degree.

Hitzlsperger - 6 - All he did all game was fill space in midfield and he had that shot off the bar. Not good enough to earn a long term contract at the moment.

Pienaar - 8 - Never stopped running, always looking to make things happen, and in the first half nobody was on his wavelength as he ran with the ball into blind alleys due to a lack of movement ahead of him. A very good game from him, suffered late on when separated from Baines and moved centrally though.

Jelavic - 5 - He ran the channels at times, but he was badly lazy on occasion, culminating in an incident where he refused to challenge for a header from a goal kick. Should have shot across the 'keeper but got caught on the ball when sprung free early in the second. He's badly lacking confidence and the end result is like playing with 10 men. Needs to improve quickly.

Anichebe - 6 - Started awful, but improved, gradually put a shift in and put his body about. Still not of the standard required to start at Everton.

SUBS:

Oviedo - 6 - Lacks the subtlety of Pienaar when he comes on but he gives it a go.

Heitinga - 6 - In the dying seconds of the game he was brave in the tackle, showed commitment, but he drifted back and gifted impetus to Wigan late on due to his natural centre-half tendencies.

Naismith - 6 - Looked good at times moving forward, intelligent runs on the blind side of defence, but he's an abysmal winger as he doesn't know how to track a man back properly.

I agree mate. I was maybe a bit harsher on Jags because of the sloppy goal, but it wasn't his fault really. Pienaar had a good game, but he wasn't as effective on the ball as he was last week. Only opinions like.

Nev was a -543 in the 1st half. Thought he was pretty good in the second.

Jags was MOM until not doing well letting Kone in like that. So Osman gets it. He's been brilliant lately and has been saving our bacon with Fellani out and the Jelavic look-alike that is playing out there.

Naismith is growing on me. A full time starter no, but excellent for a sub/part timer. I never have to complain about having no one in the box when the ball is crossed when he is playing.

Hopefully Chelsea will be the more tired of the sides with the japan trip and such and it would be nice to see us get 4 out of 6 going into the FA cup match.

Howard 6 - done no wrong but kicking was crap

Neville 5 - sll he done in advanced positions was pass backwards bar the jags goal

Jagielka - 7 made a couple of well timed challenges and got the goal.

Distin - 6 not his best game

Baines - 6 not fantastic today. Nor was he poor.

Osman 6.5 - first half was meant to be playing on right but drifted inside all the time.

Hitzlsperger - 5.5 offers nothing more than a one - two

Gibson - 6 some rash challenges and wild kicks

Pienaar - 7 done ok and always showed for the ball

Anichebe - 6 done ok

Jelavic - 7 though he played well today tried to link up and always showed for the ball.

Naismith - 7 done fantastic, better than the crap he gets from some fans

Oviedo - 6 done ok nothing more

Heitinga - 5 did he do anything?

5??? I seriously don't think Neville coming back into the side and us getting 2 wins is a coincidence. Him blocking Kone's shot was the difference between us winning and drawing, and he deserves credit for that cross.

Would you have said that about Hitz if his shot had gone in?

Howard - 6 - Few shaky moments, but whenever he doesnt cost us goals, its good enough for me
Neville - 6 - His crossing makes me cry, did alright I suppose
Baines - 9 - Baines, not even arsed
Jagielka - 10 - I love him so much
Distin - 7 - Did alright
Gibson - 7 - Decent half, always looking for the ball, loves a pass
Heitzelebvebeburger - 7 - Not bad, not good, not average, decent
Osman - 9 - Had his dancing boots on today
Piennar - 9 - I thought he was superb
Anchiebe - 7 - Meh
Jelavic - 6 - FFS SLOT

Naismith - 7 - Did well today
Oviedo - 6 - Didnt feel he got involved enough
Heitinga - 6 - Meh

After seeing Match Of The Day, I've been harsh on Pienaar. Reckon he deserved at least a 7, think he just went missing more in the 2nd half after moving to the centre and having to defend more.

Howard - 6.5 - Dealt with the rain, looks more confident, not at fault on the goal
Neville - 6.5 - 1 assist, 1 blocked goal but not much else. Plus, he looked geriatric at times on the right and got beat repeatedly. But still, 1 assist and 1 blocked goal.
Baines - 7.5 - sexmuffin
Jagielka - 8 - solid in defense, and his tackles were immense, and his header was gorgeous
Distin - 6.5 - Heading towards a 7.5, but then the goal happened, he missed his header. Bummer.
Gibson - 7 - Nothing to see here, moving on.
Hitzlman - 6 - Meh
Osman - 8 - MOTM, defended and produced offense
Piennar - 7.5 - Looks so much better, danced around out there
Anchiebe - 7 - worked hard
Jelavic - 4 - He looks brutal. I love him, but he looks brutal.

Naismith - 7 - Gets in the box. Someone above said it right - I don't have to worry about someone getting in the box when he's around
Oviedo - 6.5 - Had some good movements, but still makes some bad judgments at times
Heitinga - 5.5 - The near fight did my head in

...thought Wigan had a plan for Baines and he was as ineffective as he's been for a long time. Saying that, he might well be playing with an injury as it appeared Moyes was asking if he was ok before making the subs. Generally agree with most that Piennar and Jags played well and that Ossie was MoM. Ossie is on top of his game at the moment and long may it last. Hitz looks a bit overweight to me and the game passed him by.

We do seem to win more games when Neville is playing in the team.
