Out of 10 -- 1 being utter-tosh.
Everton (Team Rating - 6)
GK: Howard - 6: Did well today, not at fault for the goal, made a few decent saves when required.
RB: Neville - 6: Not a threat at all down the right apart from the worldy of a cross for Jagielka's goal. Solid but not spectacular on his 500th Premiership appearance. Great block when Kone had a chance to equalise.
CB: Jagielka - 7: Another very good performance - key player for us at the back. Absolutely magnificent header for the second goal.
CB: Distin - 6: Not spectacular but solid enough. At fault for the goal and fell asleep a few times during the game.
LB: Baines - 7: He really is brilliant. All you can say. Consistent as ever and made a great block in the first half.
RM: Osman - 8: Best player on the pitch today in the second half but went missing out wide in the first, much more comfortable when he was able to have a real effect on the game from the middle. Held our midfield together in the second half and deserved his goal.
CM: Gibson - 6: Looked a bit shaky in the first 10 minutes (which is rare) but settled into the game and was running midfield for us by half time. He's got a reoccurrence of an earlier thigh strain, which is worrying.
CM: Hitzlesperger - 5: Played OK but fell asleep a few times in the first half. Had a decent start to the second half finalised with that brilliant shot - stared falling asleep again after though, and was taken off at the right time by Moyes. Got overrun by Wigan's middle three on occasions.
LM: Pienaar - 6: Didn't show his form from West Ham but got about well and caused Wigan problems. Worked hard but lacked the final ball to get through Wigan's solid three at the back.
ST: Anichebie - 5: Didn't really do much but still caused Wigan some problems. Had a few attempts but was tired in the second half. Had a great chance after thirty seconds but ballooned the shot.
ST: Jelavić - 6: Didn't play as badly as he did at West Ham but still not up to standard. Fluffed a great opportunity and got frustrated at himself afterwards. Showed some good link up with Naismith later on and still put shift in. Some lovely flick on's early on and would have at least hit the target with the chance that fell to Anichebie in the first minute.
Subs:
Naismith - 7: Came on for the injured Gibson allowing Osman to re-locate to the centre of midfield. Had his best 45 minutes in an Everton shirt and linked up well with a struggling Jelavić. Had a few half chances but Wigan defended well.
Heitinga - 5: Didn't look comfortable at all in defensive midfield and the defence ended up sitting deeper in the last 10 minutes as Heitinga moved back to a sweeper position. Tried hard but hasn't been up to it this season.
Oviedo - 6: Came on for Anichebie and once again showed that he is capable of playing in the Premiership in a more advanced role on the left. Defended well and linked up with Baines and Pienaar when attacking. Good pace and provided an out-ball for the Everton defence when needed. Booked.
Manager: David Moyes - 7: Astute subs when needed with Naismith and Oviedo.
Wigan (Team Rating - 6)
GK:Al-Hasbi - 6: Decent game. Not at falut for either goal.
RWB:Stam - 5: Never threatened down the right.
CB:Boyce - 6: Defended well and got Stam out of trouble a few times. Prevented Baines and Pienaar running riot down the left flank.
CB:Caldwell - 6: Defended solidly against Anichibie and Jelavić and organised his team well. Out-jumped by Jagielka for Everton's second goal. Booked.
CB:Figueroa - 6: Another steady performance and pushed forward well. Booked.
LWB:Beausejour - 7: Did well all game and looked threatening, putting some dangerous deliveries into the box. Caused Neville problems all game and stopped Osman playing in the first half. Got well forward in the second half but wasn't used by his teammates. Booked.
Jones - 7: Did his job brilliantly sitting in midfield. Played very well in the first half but tired in the second as was subbed.
McArthur - 6: Nothing spectacular but kept things ticking over for Wigan in midfield, making up for a below-par McCarthy.
McCarthy - 5: Some good passes in the middle but didn't play well. Suffering from an ankle injury and it was evident - took a few knocks as well - an off-day for a talented player.
Maloney - 7: Didn't get on the ball much in the first half apart from a good free-kick but improved in the second half. Had a decent penalty shout turned down after Osman clipped his trailing leg and ran the game for the next ten minutes. Caused problems throughout.
Kone - 6: Put a lot of effort in and got his reward with a late goal. He controlled the ball with his hand although he did well to capitalise on the slack Everton defending. Had a great chance midway through the second half but his close-range shot was blocked superbly by Neville.
Subs:
Di Santo - 6: Always seems to play well against The Toffees and was a threat after coming on in the second half to replace Jones. Caused initial problems for Everton defence eventually leading to Kone's goal.
Jordi Gomes - 4 Didn't have an effect on game.
Manager: Roberto Martinez - 6: Set up his team to defend but Wigan had a very good shape which was hard to penetrate and the three midfielders often overran the Everton two before Heitinga came on, and looked threatening when going forward as a unit. Good substitution with Di Santo.
Referee: Lee Mason - 7: Good decision for the penalty and kept his cards in his pocket for as long as he could and let a poor game flow as much as possible. Missed a blatant handball but sloppy Everton defending left a lot to be desired!
