He's got potential but there are things he needs to work on, his defending definatly needs work. His attacking game is good and he keeps the ball well. He's only 22/23 so he's got time to develop and work his way in.

I want to see him against Blackburn, It'll be better to judge him when he is playing in a competitive game.

My big moan about yesterday.

Only 10,000, yet when i went for a pint at half time, it still took until the teams came out to get served. (main stand)

Agreed he was easily our best player in te first five games last season.

Many criticise Hibbert over his attacking play, and Baines over his defending neither can win! Im expecting him to have a very good season.

I hope we dont and i doubt we will

One awful, awful, awful game that.

Jagielka is [Poor language removed] in midfield, Gosling is terrible, that Lukas J is [Poor language removed] horrific.

Baxter is sound though.

We're a [Poor language removed] mess if that's our starting 11.

Moyes has used Lescott at centre half all pre-season so I suspect we will see Baines there. Lets see how he does and what he gives to the team. If he doesn't contribute he'll be replaced.

There are very few full-back who can have an influence or change a game, Baines is one of them!

We got great value in signing him and he has a big future with us.

We'll see what happens, I'm a big fan but I'm not going to make out like he's the dogs bollocks. He has his strengths and he has his weaknesses and there are areas he does need to improve.

At his age he's got alot of time to improve and as people have said he'll be suited to some games more than others. It's not just about him though, we'll have to see whether his presence has an effect on the back four or not. There's no doubting we look alot more solid with Lescott at left back and Baines' lack of height means we have to get height into the side in other areas of the pitch.

As I've said I'd like to see him get a run of games, see if he fits into our system and see what he offers us. His attacking game is spot on, he's a breath of fresh air with his ability on the ball and pace but I'd like to see more of his defending.

Yes but he needs to able defend, Baines cant do it

I agree to an extent mate, i dont think its a case that he cant defend, i think he leaves himself exposed because of the attacking nature of his game.

I think hes of an age where his defensive skills can and will be improved on generally by coaching. I think Moyesy needs to work with him in terms of decison making of when to go forward and not.

But what he does give you in going forward is harder to find in the full back position then it is to coach defensive skills particularly in that position.

Prefer my defenders to be able to defend. Am old fashioned like that. Yesterdays goal was a prime example of his defending, got nowhere near the attacker

His tackle on the guy who scored was utter pathetic. I coach young lads of 12, and even they know that in that position, you go with your right foot.

He went with his left TWICE !. Not good enough, must improve drastically.

Excellent post mate, he cant even do the basics of defending
