That’s the problem, it’s closely followed by a turgid grind of a September, and a manager search in Jan.

The lack of new bodies, whether it could be helped or not, has taken some gloss off the grand re-launch of the club.

Not a great look if you want to advertise the club in America, why would any new fans support us other than out of pity?

I think the real issue is that, even though we can all say that pre-season doesn't matter, the longer this goes on with us looking like a shambles and being battered by really poor teams, the more likely potential targets just stick two fingers up at us. We know that our reputation is in the mud and loads of players are unsure about joining.

We need to get out in front of this and push a couple of good deals over the line, or the job is going to get exponentially harder.
