"Modibo Diakite is on standby to partner Valentin Roberge in central defence at Everton, if John O’Shea fails to shake off a shoulder problem.

Sunderland’s defensive resources are stretched as they head to Goodison Park on Boxing Day, with Wes Brown ruled out of the next three games through suspension after being sent off against Norwich City at the weekend, while Carlos Cuellar remains sidelined with a hip injury.

O’Shea completed the full 90 minutes against Norwich despite picking up the shoulder injury during the game, and the Black Cats are hopeful that their skipper will be passed fit to play following an assessment yesterday.

But if the Republic of Ireland international is ruled out, it would mean summer Bosman recruits Diakite and Roberge could be paired together for only the second time.

Their only previous outing together ended in a 3-1 home defeat against Arsenal in September. Since then, Roberge has been a regular on the bench and has been used on a couple of occasions as cover, while Diakite has not played any competitive football since ex-boss Paolo Di Canio was sacked three months ago, and has only figured on the bench a handful of times"

Great stuff Chico once again. With Brown, Cuellar and possibly O'Shea out at CB for them this could be a real chance to increase our goal difference, so 1-0:) nah I'm going for 4-0 Lukaku 2, Mirallas and McCarthy. COYB.

Christmas Eve and still delivering. It's Christmas so I will be nice for once. Great effort again mate, we should do this without too much drama, but Everton being Everton I expect us to be 1-0 down with 20 minutes to go.

think they will prove a slightly tougher test than people are giving them credit for

2-1 like last year.

This, but more because we usually find a way to make it hard for ourselves.

They're a really bad team by PL standards. We should be stuffing them 5-0, but I think it'll be close.

was interesting to hear borini's comments the other day saying that it will take time for the players to adapt to poyets approach of passing the ball around

sounds like they are trying to be more technical under him hence their performance against chelsea in the cup

Great read. Confident of a win.
Maybe it's time to start Naismith or someone else and have Lukaku come on from the bench for this match. Noticed the little quarrel with Mourinho seemed to deflate him a little and he hasn't been scoring as much after. Having said that if our strikers don't score someone else will.

would probably rotate a bit for this game - we should have enough giving osman, naismith and probably push oviedo to left wing? soton will be a much tougher test.
