How do we fit Barkley, Besic and McCarthy in a holding role with Naismith in number 10?

4-3-3? Naismith up top? I don't know.

McCarthy, Besic, Barkley
Naismith, Lukaku, Mirallas
midfield diamond?
mccarthy
besic-barkley
naismith

with lukaku and mirallas or eto'o up top.

Great result but again not a convincing performance.
Going backwards all the time is crackers and i understand the fans reaction.
Besic,naismith and barkley superb.
Lukaku was awful lazy, gutless display, kone did more in 2 minutes than lukaku all game.
Hope kev is ok what a player

why were our fans booing, no wonder the players confidence are low.

i could understand it to be honest. jagielka was at it virtually every time, the problem we have is that we don't have enough players who use both feet. they always take a touch and look up and then look to make the pass, by that time, our players are marked and then they're happy to turn around and pass to the keeper. we don't pass the ball first time either because of this insistence to control, even simple passes done first time make the difference.

nothing wrong with the system, just the centre backs we have had to pick the last few weeks.

We were better without the ball tonight, pressed them further up the field and won the ball a lot in their half. Work rate of Neismith, Besic and Barclay was good. We will need a similar effort against Southampton as they also like to play out from the back.

Not to be overly critical after the win but the problem I see with this new Martinez style is the amount of time our centre halves get on the ball. They're our least creative players and they're expected to start the whole move off at the back, that coupled with the fact there's very little movement in front of them leads to a predictive style of football.

No mate, I'm sick and tired of us under performing, when do the excuses end when is it time as a fan to say wake up to the players, who earn £30k - £70k a week???? Well sorry i want more!!!!

OK, I'll spell it out for you. The team aren't as fluid as they were last season because of the added Europa league games. Throw in a ton of injuries, including Stones and McCarthy, throw in a messed up pre-season and you have a team is constantly changing and finding it hard to jell. It's happening in flashes but with Europe out of the way for a few months and players coming back, expect the team to improve, in the meantime be grateful that the can grind out the odd result. Thats this internet user in Americas opinion.

A much needed three points, didn't think we played particularly well for large parts of the game, hopefully we'll build some confidence from here. From 3-0, we really should have taken them to the cleaners. We won this game centrally, Besic man of the match, Barkley and Naismith gave us the drive we needed. let's hope Mirallas isn't as bad as it looked.
