Managerial tactics can't disguise a lack of effort on the players part. The players are not blameless in any way, shape or form.

I guess they've not been trying for two full seasons, and those last Wigan players getting themselves relegated......

There's a tactical shift, if the players aren't consistently pressing across multiple seasons and two different teams, it's a managerial issue, hardly lazy players at fault
