From the o/s, sounds like a good game.

Everton Reserves secured a deserved 2-2 draw with manchester United.

Goals from Victor Anichebe and James Vaughan earned the Blues a share of the spoils at the sodden Halton Stadium, despite being reduced to 10 men for 55 minutes following the dismissal of John Irving.

Andy Holden's side weathered the storm in the second half, producing a display packed with guts and determination.

The Blues began proceedings strongly in damp conditions and took the lead on 12 minutes. Victor Anichebe's deflected shot from the edge of the area fooled United keeper Ron-Robert Zieler, looping over his head to give Everton a 1-0 advantage.

The goal rallied the Red Devils into life and John Ruddy was called into action to deny David Gray's header but less than a minute later Andy Holden's side doubled their lead.

The combination of Anichebe and James Vaughan proved too hot for the United defence to handle. Vaughan picked up the ball from 20 yards and unleashed a powerful low shot into the bottom corner.

Brian McClair's side pulled a goal back on 22 minutes through Gary Neville. The brother of the Blues' skipper Phil tore down the right- hand wing, into the box and calmly slotted the ball over the advancing Ruddy.

Five minutes before half-time the Blues were reduced to 10 men when John Irving was sent-off for pulling back striker Febian Brandy in the penalty area. The referee subsequently awarded a penalty but Ruddy showed his agility to deny Sam Hewson from 12 yards and the resulting rebound was bundled over the bar by Sean Evans.

After the break United's numerical advantage paid dividends, with Evans equalising on 62 minutes. The nippy winger, with time and space at his disposal, put a sweet shot past Ruddy.

As the conditions worsened, the game opened up with chances falling for both sides; notably for Michael Lea and Vaughan.

Baines, Vaughan and Anichebe made way for Aidan Downes, Ryan Harpur and Kieran Agard midway through the second half - with the trio coming through the game unscathed.

United piled on the pressure late on but some dogged and resolute defending earned the Blues a point.

Finished 2-2.

Good game overall i thought Everton looked brilliant and can't remember United touching the ball much within the first 30 minutes or so.

I thought Jack Rodwell looked brilliant in more of a defensive midfielder role. I was very impressed with Everton's Steve Morrison on the right wing.

He was wipping in dangerous cross after another, linking up well with the full back, going past players with ease and was just a handful on the other wing.

Tonight im sorry to say proved to me why exactly i don't rate Kissock, hes so similar to McFadden that he will do a few tricks and then lose the ball, I'd compare him to McFadden without the bit of ability that James can often show. Cant see him making it for Everton to be honest.

I thought Evertons defence was very sharp, did well as a unit and i think the red card was harsh, he was last man but this ref seemed a little card happy, even sending off Holden lol.

Anichebes goal was lucky, huge deflection but caused them trouble all night, so did Vaughan took his goal well.

All first teamers come off after 75 minutes so good time under their belts.

Few piccys.
