Interesting to see how we set up. I can see it being similar to the post lockdown derby in terms of us letting them have the ball and limiting the space behind our back line. We have a lot more quality going forward now so hopefully we’ll be ruthless on the day and take our chances. Carlo did well against these during his time at Napoli, we should now have a strong enough team to execute his game plan.
I think we need to work hard and keep it tight. If we can get the ball to James he’ll find the killer pass. This will be a massive test to see if we have turned the corner mentally. They will come out fighting after the Villa game.

I think we can match them whatever they do. Hopefully Coleman and Allan are fit and the rest comeback from the internationals in one piece. We need to take the game to them and given they have just conceded 7 they may be a little shaky. My one concern is James is up against that snide at left back who may resort to non football methods to stop him.
as you say. "That snide at left back may resort to non football methods to stop JR.
You just know that he will resort to.something... So let's hope that the referee is up to scratch with "football methods" to put a stop to " the snide".
Hopefully the referee is up to being fair and can control this match. That in itself will (I believe) benefit Everton.............a poor refereeing performance will imo benefit them. I just hope that our good early season does not become unstuck on Saturday because of poor refereeing.

As much as it pains me to say it, they are still a quality team. We may lose next week, but as Carlo says we have to show our mettle when there are tough times. If we lose it’s vital we bounce straight back with a win. A loss won’t derail our season providing the players show the right spirit. That being said, it’s the first time in a long time I’m going into a derby thinking we’ll give them a good game.

My prediction
DERBY.webp

Totally agree with what you say. But for this one game I just hope we leave nothing on the pitch. No hard luck stories. No Pickford mistakes. No missed chances. And no poor refereeing. (Although I might accept the odd decision in our favour). We are due one against them......

We turn up........then they will know that they have been in a game. So let's just hope that we turn up.........I have a feeling that we will. This season just feels different.........Up the Toffees....

Villa set traps all over the pitch and the excellent Grealish took them apart.
James and Richarlison should be able to cause them even more problems than Jack did.

No no mate. Forget thinking we may lose. If we are positive from the start we can get the win.
Bloody hell I'm nervous now just thinking we could go for a win and it's a week away.

Really surprised at how many people think we'll win.
Look at the form Pickford has been in so far this season.
Now take a second to remember he's always twice as bad vs Newcastle or Liverpool...

It has been many a year since we faced them with a side as well balanced as this current one.
Pickford is an issue, but that should not derail our ability to rip through any opposition in this league.

I like the fact reading the comments most are positive about our chances. Let’s keep it that way. We haven’t suddenly become better than them but we do have a team capable of matching and beating them in a one off game, especially at home. Forget our record v these, the past doesn’t matter. We just need to be able to put our best team out and do the things we have been doing really well without the ball, and punish them with it. Let’s hope we can put the team out that started the season, possibly with sigurdson in for Gomes on merit. 2-1 is my prediction, I also think it’s our turn to get the last minute winner.

Dreamt we got beat 1-0 and TAA scored.
Although the game was at Anfield. Also I was a superhero so punch of salt etc.

If they play a line as high as that against us they'll lose.

Our side now has the players and coaching to pass quickly up the pitch, with the movement and pace to get in behind.

I’m sure if Robertson does manage to get anywhere near James , James can just decide to up his game and actually break into a jog :)
