By the final whistle, the favourite old anthem was booming from the speakers. The players in Blue were sporting beaming smiles, a promising young striker had bolstered his reputation and the man on the touchline was punching the air in delight.

Aren't Everton supposed to be a club in crisis?

..those wins take the pressure off. The reds are super up top so it’s difficult to see anything but a comfortable win for them. I expect we’ll sit deep with two solid banks of four. The longer it stays 0-0 the longer we have something to hold on to.

In a way, Baines being injured might help the cause as Salah will be looking to get in behind all the time. If we play a high line we’ll get stuffed. Their two wide men will cut inside (Coutinho and Mane’s goals last season) so we need somebody to play the Barry role.

We really need to ride our luck. We won’t have much threat going the other way.

Yeah - problem is though the thought of Martina (or indeed Baines) against Salah makes my eyes bleed.

Strangely sitting so deep and playing Niasse/DCL could actually work, both are the types who can force defenders into bad errors and the rs defenders are massively prone to cocking things up when on top in a game

Can't see Rooney getting a kick against how hard they press though

Then again midweek we can basically send a group of kids to play in Athens, they have a must win game against CSKA - lets hope for massive amounts of injuries

Good win and performance. Only criticism is that we sat back a bit too deep at times considering we were the home side against a poor opposition. I think maybe this is a sign of things to come with this manager, its grand when you get the result but when you dont play adventurously it will start to get frustrating and when it dosent go to plan the fans will get on his back quickly. But a great start to the new era, crisis what crisis?

...it’s highly unlikely but we’ve gone their with awful teams on a hiding to nothing and got something, Ste, so you never know. I remember many years ago one of my Red mates having a 7-0 bet and we got a draw with Ian Wilson in the team. I was so chuffed with the Blues that day for the shift we put in that it’s always stuck with me.

Going there without these last two wins is a frightening thought, so at least the pressure is off.
