As disappointing as the game was just think the fume is a bit much.
Its just a game and they are going to play like this every know and then
especially if you think of where they are and where they've come from.
there are still major weaknesses in the team and that was pretty clear last night.
I'd like to think Carlo's game management is based on longer term objectives.
And covering up weaknesses doesn't necessarily help them.
I think one of the reasons Carlo is so effective is he ultimately puts the responsibility on the players to stand up themselves
there isn't a need to put his arm around them and reassure them, he treats them like men.
Instead of hooking a player off he makes them face their weaknesses and sees if they'll get through it.
He's not just waiting for the next transfers to come in,
he's giving them the opportunity to see what they are really made - all in the knowledge that weaknesses exist in the team itself
he doesn't set them up to fail, he covers as best he can the team weaknesses and then puts it on the individuals
i get the feeling every now and then he exposes them to their weaknesses to see if progress has been made - this probably tells him more than anything else.
I think Fulham was one of those.
On the team weaknesses its clear the team needs at least one other player that can do what Lookman did last night.
With Richarlison out of form there's very little outs for the defence and centre midfield to go too;
and without those outs there is no chance of the team imposing their will.
This all changes if a top right winger comes in and richarlison refinds his ability to take on players
James can then go and sit wherever the space is and start to control tempo and movement.
And it'll be all the more better, if it happens, for the experience of matches like last night.
The players that come through this period will have grown, we've already seen it with Davies, DCL and Godfrey
all the while players like Digne and Keane continue leading the way.
Hopefully it all come together and the football played, and the will shown, will be worthy of the goodison pitch.
