Their defeats this season have mainly come from defending deep and waiting for the last 20 minutes to counter and nick a goal.

That seems to be a Benitez forte plus they always pull out their worst performances against Everton.

Townsend posted a picture a mere few days ago on his social media where he was wearing a protective boot, so I’d guess he won’t be playing. Neither will Mina.

So I played FIFA with my son this morning - him being Everton and he asked me to be Brighton. A glowing positive is that I, as Brighton, scored a terrible own goal.

A good omen, hopefully. The negative omen is that I won 6-1.
