We don’t man mark with zonal defending, hence the ‘sh*t marking’. The general opinion seems to be that we don’t look safe defending zonally and have conceded too many our goals from set peices.

But Zouma should have done a better job attacking the ball when it came towards the zone he was marking. That kind of lack of awareness would see us punished irrespective of who or what the players concerned are meant to be marking.

In any event, I think we started the season poorly in this respect but this is more of a blip; in recent weeks I think we’ve worked on the issue and defended much better.
