Got beat 1-5 by West Ham at Finch Farm today, in their second game of the season. Last week they lost their first game 1-3 away at WBA.

Two defeats in the first two games in the new national U21/Reserves league. Any more of this form and in January, when the FA are planning on re-organising the leagues and moving the best teams into a top division and having two feeder divisions underneath, we might miss out on being in the top division. This might seem a minor quibble, but it really would be detrimental to our young players not to be playing in the top Reserves division in the country.

The EFC team for todays match is: Taudul, Browning, Bidwell, Lundstram, Duffy, Hammar, Garbutt, Barkley, Vellios, Hope, Green.

Some good players in the line up, some with first team experience. Shouldn't be getting battered like this. Having seen the reserves in pre-season too, losing to the likes of Partick Thistle, Tranmere and drawing 0-0 with Hereford, this isn't isolated form either.

Anyone else have their doubts over whether Stubbs/Holden are the right men to be in charge of the reserves? I wonder if a change might be beneficial.

I think we need to change the staff that manage them and also have a shake up of the players, easier said than done but something needs to change because they had a decent season last season and now they seem a bit lacklustre

Although results aren't the be end and end all at this level, but trying to progress one or two into the first team being the main aim,i do think it important that we qualify for the top division to maintain there progression otherwise i think some of them will need to be sent out on loan to experience a higher level of football.

It is worrying that they're underperforming when Barkley, Duffy and Vellios haven't looked out of place in the first team. We don't want them stagnating playing in a poor team. I mean i don't think results are that important at that level, but it would be ncec to get into winning habits.

Especially if some of our better kids are loaned out, like they probably should be.

there's a few out of that team that i'd give a game on wednesday night, barkley, duffy, garbutt, mcaleny and vellios all look promising.

The worrying thing is though, if they're playing ****e for the U-21s/reserves, are they going to be ready/in the right frame of mind to make the step up and play for the first team in games like Wednesday vs Orient?

It finished EFC 1-5 West Ham at full time.

Played 2, lost 2. There are 12 matches to be played before the leagues are reorganised, and our next game is Arsenal away a week tomorrow.

Still think that Barkley, Duffy and Vellios are under performing with U21s because they're fed up with not being included in the first team. They need to go out on loan soonest to get them playing with enthusiasm again.

I struggle to get my head around the concept of this new league. It doesn't affect us too much as we have a paper thin squad but there must be some of the teams in the league who have big squads who can't get older/more experienced squad players game time.

In respect of todays game, could it be that West Ham have a very good team? They do have a great tradition of bringing through the best of London's youth.
