Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

Todays thought.

Bale earns more a year than Digne cost to buy.
I know, just floating one of those often heralded media swaps that never actually happen and as Everton have traditionally been a last pay day for finished players thought I’d save the papers the time and effort.

Aaron Hickey of Hearts. I've been singing his praises for the last 12 months. We need to get in there or watch another club get him signed up and we can repent at leisure like we did with VVD and Robertson:

"Robbie Neilson admits tying down teenage starlet Aaron Hickey on a long-term deal is one of his first priorities as he settles into life at Hearts second time around.

And he reckons the kid needs at least 100 games for the Jambos under his belt before moving on to bigger things.
The 18-year-old left-back burst on to the scene towards the end of the 2018/19 season and rounded it off with a man-of-the-match performance after being handed a shock start in the Scottish Cup Final against Celtic.

Hickey is now in the final year of his deal at Tynecastle and has been attracting interest from Scotland, England and across Europe.

Celtic, Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Inter and Lazio have all been linked with the youngster and Hearts’ relegation to the Championship made it seem inevitable the Jambos would cash in, rather than lose him for nothing in a year’s time."
Hickeys special talent and has cracking potential will be cheap too with hearts relegation - gives them money and time to rebuild too as I don't think their league starts back for ages.

He’s excellent, massive talent & potential.

If we sell Digne I'd be gutted but understand what we want to do as a football club, Chelsea & City will play £50mil for him

That could cover the cost of the Spanish left back & Allan then so be it, im sure Carlo didn't join us without knowing how we work

Totally agree. Think having an LB the quality of Leighton Baines and then managing to find a replacement the quality of Digne has made us all complacent. It is incredibly rare to find full backs of that quality. Particularly when we are, for now at least, regrettably a mid-table club.

This lad may be the dog's-you-know-whats, but we shouldn't look to shift any of our top players (of which there are very few) unless we absolutely have to! We should be building a team around our better players for now. If we move forward, we can sell some of them to reinvest, but at the moment we run the risk of going further backward if we sell the few good players we have.

On the other hand, if we have way more money to spend than we thought, and we are bringing in quality competition, I am all for it!!
It's the natural lifecycle of midtable teams. Sign a good player cheaply, sell high, reinvest and hope to improve.

If we want to be a good team, we can't sell our good players. Clearly replacing players is not easy.
We need to build on what we have, we have some players that can leave, but digne is not one. Not many better left backs in the league (if any)

I guess it depends on the player too. It's likely that he'd want a crack at titles and the CL and he wouldn't have to go far to do it. Let's be honest, he's not going to get that with us any time soon and it's a short career. If any player wants to go, and maybe he doesn't, and the price is right, then it's always good to sell.

If we build from what we have and sign 3 quality players a season then we'll need 2 or 3 seasons to get up the table to where these players want to be.

By that time Digne would be 29/30 and Richarlison 25/26 and both will have handed in transfer requests. Dignes value will have dropped also.

If were going to sell Digne then the summer is now with 3 years on his deal.

Hopefully we keep him and find a way around FFP but if the money is good and we replace with 3 new signings its worth a gamble.

It's a crap position to be in but you're right.

We must keep one of our best player in Digne.

We got loads of deadwoods to sell to generate funds.

Dortmund sells their best players year after year after year and remains a top team.

Admittedly that model is a lot easier to sustain when you're in the Champions League, but the point is that if you're not at the top of the food chain then you have to know when to cash in, and how to reload.

Those deadwoods aren’t worth a damn. Digne alone is worth more than the rest of the squad combined, bar Richarlison.

We have to build around Digne and Richarlison. Our best players. All others can sell given the right price just not those two.
