City dont mess around with signings...complete opposite to us...Ferran and Ake are 2 superb signings for reasonable fees. Everton/Brand will only start to sign mediocre players closer to the end of the window...and we will have another season of disappointments...anyhow its summer and its sunny!!!

Using the wages from Spotrac (probably not the most reliable) we've already cleared 18m off our books between wages and sales.
Schneiderlin we sold at a loss compared to his book value (sold for 2, 4.67 amortization left), but getting his wages off was big

Envious of City's ability to operate so early in the window (Torres and Ake), but reality is what it is. They can identify a target and just get it done. The player does not care to wait and see if anything else is out there.
We don't have that luxury and Hojbjerg is an example. I can imagine that he is a Brands/Carlo compromise. Carlo might prefer Allan, but he is older, more expensive and would need to adjust to the league. Brands offers Hojbjerg as a suitable (for arguments sake) alternative pointing out this will free up funds to be spent elsewhere and Carlo agrees. A bid is made, but Hojbjerg has had his head turned by Spurs so we have to wait for that situation to play out.
We don't like that, but it is the reality. Sure we could spend big on Allan, but that might mean no new right wing or right back. If Hojbjerg stalls too long we have to make the decision to go all in for Allan or be prepared for plans c, d or e (say Roca, Koopmeiners and McKennie)
All that to say that unless we want to sign the Davy Klaassens of the world who jump at the chance to come to Everton then we have to be patient.
