Gomes is a passer...can move forward with the ball....

Tonali has frequently been box to box or as an anchor...tackle machine + drives the team forward...hes their fulcrum...high energy...wouldnt call him a deep playmaker anymore (though he can play there)

Only similiarity i see is that the both can pass a ball well....wouldnt say much else.

Tonali always, always plays at the base of the midfield for Brescia. He gets continuous links to Pirlo (a deep-lying playmaker). He picks the ball up in between the defenders and sprays it around. Exactly what Gomes can, and often does, do for us.

You must be looking at some kind of stats and not watching him...

Hes central in a 3 and drives past the other two with the ball more than they carry it...tackles more than them as well...

In short, hes action man and their best player.

If youre saying that Gomes is an all action player + set piece specialist + tackle monster + can drive past others at pace every game...

Then i cant see that.

I saw some table showing the most tackles made by forwards. Richarlison was number one by a massive distance, but next in line was Willian at Chelsea, who is on a free this summer. I personally think that signing someone like Willian on a free is much better value than buying the likes of Iwobi for 30 million, even if he is turning 32 in the summer.

Meunier and Willian would sort our right hand side out, and both are available on free transfers.

Tonali isn't a tackle monster. (1.2 tackles per game to 0.9 for Gomes)
Gomes can drive past anyone.
Gomes can probably take a good set-piece but we have Digne.

I'm not saying Tonali isn't a good prospect but there's no way we'd shell out his fee on a player like that when we have someone similar already. If we played 4-3-3 maybe but we don't.

I honestly think we need just 3 quality players, we can't keep buying 5,6,7 players a year and wonder why we take ages to look like a coherent team. Time to start buying quality not quantity, we don't need squad fillers, we need players who are better than what we have now as daft and simple as it sounds.

Shift on the deadwood and hopefully by the end of 21 season all the Koemaggedon stuff is gone. Whatever happens, I think we will see a better squad take shape.
I get what you're saying, but I think it's putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5.

We haven't really looked like a coherent team this season, but realistically speaking, only 4 new players have been involved. Gbamin and Lossl have played about 90 minutes in total between them, so we can't really say that they've had any effect on the team whatsoever. Gomes was already here last year so there's no disruption there. That leaves Sidibe, who was bedded in very slowly (he didn't play his first game until mid October), Kean, who has made about 4 starts all season, and Iwobi and Delph, who I would guess have both played less than half our games. In short, we don't look like a coherent team because we're not very good, not because we signed too many players.

I'd say we need a centre half, a right back (if Kenny isn't seen as the answer), a central midfielder who can actually play football, and a right winger. That's to effectively go straight into the team. The issue then is that you've got Baines probably going, so you need to bring a left back in. You've also got a situation where players may not appreciate being pushed further down the pecking the order by the newcomers (Keane, Schneiderlin, Davies, Sigurdsson etc) who it may make sense to move on. You then have to look at the possibility of replacing them too. That's without taking into account players you might not want to sell but who decide that they don't want to be here anymore.

The ideal scenario is to not do a huge amount of business every summer, there's no argument there. The issue is that before that can happen you need to be in a position where the majority of your squad is good enough. We're not there yet in my opinion.

Richarlison in his season at Watford was played deeper on the left after Silva left and his some crazy numbers for defensive work.

Willian ive actually highly rated in the past and thought he was way better than hazard in spells) but this season he seems to have regressed....

Buying a 32 year old or signing one on a free is great in theory until their legs go and youre left with an unsellable player.

As I wrote before, not similar.

So they're not similar because Zat says so with no evidence to back it up except some lie you watch Brescia games despite being in a wildly different timezone.

Okay then m8.

Anyone who has seen Tonali play I feel would agree that and Gomes are different players.

Im not sure what 'evidence' youre searching for here...very peculiar that I can watch Everton games which are actually later at night here than Italian matches...

Or do i not watch Everton either

That would be true Zatception.

But you're an Everton fan on an Everton forum so why would that be weird to go out of your way to watch them?

Plus no one on here watches Italian football to weigh in on the argument. If you can't see Gomes can do exactly the same stuff for us then it wouldn't shock me based on everything else you say about football.

Some people on here do watch Italian football...

Thats like saying "no one on here watches German football".

Is that a true statement?
