Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

What this club DOESN'T know about is making profit... which is one of the reasons we're currently so hamstrung in the transfer market. It's not a lack of funds, it's a lack of ability to spend them because of FFP and the fact we lost over £100m last year.

One of the reasons Chelsea were able to go on spending a fortune for years was their constantly making small to medium profits by selling on young players who were either developed in house or brought in for very cheap/free.

Bringing in someone like Longstaff (who is fairly highly thought of and certainly has potential to improve) for free and (probably) on relatively modest wages is a bit of a no brainer. Cleverly made good profit in terms of transfer fee, but probably isn't a great comparison as I'd imagine his wages were relatively high, as he was already well established, and coming from Man Utd.
Highly thought off by who?? He had one good game against the mancs last season. If he had anything about him Newcastle wouldn’t be letting him go on a free.

Then throw him in the U23s for Unsworth to develop him with crabitis

Not sure why Unsworth gets such a bad press on here. Barkley looked potent when he came out of the academy. So did Davies. Gordon is currently looking very good. Maybe the problem is the first team training which just seems to take all aggression away from any player.

Which would make sense, except we've changed managers like most people change channels.

The only constant on the coaching staff across that time has been Ferguson... and well I kind of doubt, whatever you think of him as a coach, that he's responsible for reducing players' aggression

Proper boring line that people trot out without any proper evidence.

As you say, we've had Barkley Davies and Gordon come out the u23s and step up to prem football in the last few years (maybe not so much Davies like)

What do people expect? Every player who comes through the u23s to make it at prem level??

It just doesnt happen, at any football club.

If a player is good enough they make it to the prem, but a huge majority of academy players at any club never play prem football

Aggression is not the only issue it’s footballing ability, touch, reading of the game, tactical awareness etc...
