you know that for definite do you?

we would prob lose possession more and untimately conced more goals, although we might concede less goals at set pieces

why arent shawcross and dann playing for better clubs?

They are playing for clubs operating at the exact same level that we are operating at. Shawcross is an awesome defender. As an attacker, Id much rather deal with John Stones, with his propensity to over play and get himself into difficulties, then I would being up against Shawcross. But then again, John Stones is the greatest defender the world has ever seen, it's just a shame he seems to have such difficulty coping with crosses into the penalty area.

Wow.

We're not bad at defending, IMO. We don't really concede from open play.

We're poor at defending certain situations - i.e. crosses into the box, and that is something that obviously needs to be worked on.

Dann and Shawcross are both good defenders, but you're actually suggesting selling one of the most promising footballers on the planet now and replacing them with those two?

If you cant deal with simple crosses into your box, then you have a serious deficiency when it comes to defending. The type of deficiency that will see your club concede goals.

We should sell Stones for 50 million, and then buy Shawcross and Dann with the cash. The end result would be that we have a better defence than what we currently have, which is actually a poor defence.

Not a bad shout !! Might have a few bob left over for a celebration drink too !!

your oversimplfying everything, how were scott dann and shawcross at his age?

It wont let me link off the phone...

If you go to their mobile site its under "january sales"

Got a link Zat? Would be a great signing, though at 18 wouldn't be ready for our first team yet I don't think. Williams or Didavi from Stuttgart would be my choices.

Shawcross is 28, perhaps the extra 7 years playing football compared to John have improved his ability to deal with crosses and decsion making on when he should just punt it into row z...

As much as I'm inclined to agree that our defence isn't what people make it out to be, I think that's a result of their coaching as opposed to our players' abilities.

Who are the stuttgart guys? They used to have that amazing attacking midfielder in the 90s whose name escapes me...top class...

Embolo has racked up a lot of appearances and would actually compete with Lukaku rather than just be a backup i think...not to say hes on his level of course but potentially amazing.

Didn't go too well with Scott Dann in the summer did it mate? He signed a new deal with Palace.

So did Mirallas and Yarmolenko, but both will be the subject of serious transfer speculation in January. My suggestion isn't a prediction of what will happen, it's just a suggestion that I think would vastly improve our poor defence.

By selling our best defender, we would improve our defence?

We just need to wait another seven years for the Barcelona bound John Stones to catch up with him then.
