Everton Transfer Thread 2016

The top few sides we are meant to be competing with have improved to some degree though.

Yes but we will improve mate. Just because it hasn't happened in the first two weeks of Koeman's tenure (when he hasn't even had access to a full squad yet either due to the Euros, plus there's still Funes and Rom to come back into the fold as well) doesn't mean it won't!

We've made some early moves and now is the time that one of them will hopefully come to fruition. if not we'll have other targets lined up.

It's not fanciful though. If you speak to senior officials of other clubs there's a recognition that this sleeping giant is about to be woke. History shows that at times we can compete financially with other clubs we win trophies.

We have the potential to break into the PL established elite and our peers are concerned rightly that we will do so.
Even better! Hope we're hated/revered because we actually win said trophies. :)

..you need to turn this in man, it's a bit odd.

Let me put it like this...you say 'There's no excuse for us not signing a keeper'.

So, a few things on that score...

Firstly - we have, cover as he may be, so your point is automatically null as it goes, partic in light of it being untrue...

Secondly - this was a subject that the last manager should have addressed a long time ago (JAN 14 by his own admission) and, frankly, him not doing so cost us gawwwd knows how many points last season.

Thirdly - and this is the biggy - no matter what sort of 'project' is on the go here we have to face facts that players may NOT wish to sign for us if other avenues are open to them. It's so easy for people to go, as they do & are '...yeah, they'll sign if the money's right...double the dough, they'll be here...' Really? Doesn't always work that way because again - sadly - there are bigger clubs - or rather perhaps more 'appealing' clubs - than us that are throwing money around at the moment...

Last time we threw money around....we got NIASSE (or what may or may not be the actual NIASSE).

The panic is utter madness at this stage. To repeat...the full squad hasn't even been together yet & we've played once, behind doors, on what looked like a school field. Pffff...

Be patient, stop kicking...you gloomy boob. ;)

We should have already bought a keeper....like you stated Martinez should have got one...he didnt. Koeman knows we need one....he should have got one.

its poor going into friendlies without a 1st choice keeper to get used to the defence and vice versa.

Arsenal have signed Xaka - the kind of player they've needed
Palace have signed players which will improve them considerably (including the keeper we were supposedly linked with)
Spurs have a striker and Wanyama
Even 'Boro have made signings which will ensure they're no bums.

If we're looking to break the top 6 at league this season, and we can assume that Chelsea, United, City and Arsenal will comfortably finish above us we're looking to improve on our squad against Spurs and the RS. Both of whom had better squads then us last season, as the league positions stated, and both of whom who have signed players who will improve the over squad (RS replacing that clown and Spurs bumping their attacking and MF options)

But there is no sign that we aren't going to do that! We have had a new manager in charge for two weeks, and he hasn't even yet seen the full extent of the squad.

Patience is a virtue and a fair few on here need to get that in their heads.

Utterly fed up with the press and their constant baseless linking of Everton to anybody with a pulse. I don't even read the press! Their tendrils have seeped into the internet like a fungal disease.

A phrase from an Oysterband song comes to mind with the media:
"Everywhere I go I hear what's going on ... and the more I hear the less I know."

He's been in the job two weeks and he has got one. You're literally ignoring that fact Zat

*friendly - ONE friendly.

..and you're welcome Zat, any time mate...;)

By loads. Have you forgotten the optimism of his first season, when we were angrily waiting for one of the "big clubs" to poach him?

im sure when martinez was first appointed many people, perhaps the majority were very dubious about the appointment. the first season maybe allayed a lot of fears but if anyone was suggesting barcelona would come calling it was likely tongue in cheek.
