Everton to visit the USA in the Summer

You lucky, lucky dog. It'll probably happen if they are already talking.

I know the west coast is far from England and all, but seriously, it's pre-season! Come on folks! Only 1 of the team's coming to Seattle and that's it?!?!?! Damn.

They were training in Seattle 2 years ago and played at Rio Tinto against the All Stars (and RSL actually). Also trained in LA the other year. We haven't been NE USA in pre season yet so DC was logical. Houston we've been before just not played the Dynamo.

Yes. The Dynamo weren't in Houston yet but I went to not only both games at Reliant (Club America and Pachuca) but they had a special practice that you could attend. I was there. Mucho fun.

i might have a bed for someone to crash in if they are going to travel for the match.

Yeah but that was before I was a fan so it doesn't count. :) And I want to actually see them play a game, so only Utah would have been the option. And really. Utah? We west coasters do not consider them the West Coast.

It's just amazing that of all three clubs traveling to the US, only 1 is visiting a west coast city to play a game. I know it's because of distance, but it kinda sucks as we have large soccer markets out here and the US is one big place.

Utah is further West than East thats how I see it :D

I remember when they were training in LA and they went down to the beach to play some beach football tennis (whatever it is). Here's some pics. They attracted a little crowd too, haha.

Another little blog on it

Some from Seattle

I went to that RSL vs. Everton match as well. It was held in Rice Eccles stadium since Rio Tinto wasn't built yet.

That's where I got to see first hand that the Jags at Right Back experiment was doomed to failure.

Seriously - based on our reaction here alone, if this club doesn't market this properly, we're dumb. For example, one hopes there's a link for kit sales somewhere. Hope Tim Howard has a great Gold Cup, that will help. (Actually, I hope he has a boring gold cup as opponents get nowhere near his goal, but that's neither here nor there).

One thing to note, if there is a sniff anywhere in LD's direction by us in July (I'm sure the press will invent something), and LD does well during the Gold Cup in June and the US wins, there will be publicity for Everton while they are here for that reason alone... There is apparently a LD/Gatorade ad also in the works, so he'll be seeing some tv eyeballs this summer. Connect us to him and a solid Gold Cup = new fans. MLS tv ratings are also up in the first few weeks (up 129% vs last year for Galaxy vs. Sounders), meaning more eyeballs than ever before! Again, if we don't take advantage of all this, what the heck are we doing in the US for our pre-season tour?

Just sayin'.

Exactly what she said ^^^^^^ !!! Ya don't need a degree in Marketing and Promotion to see this one is like Willy Wonkas golden ticket landing in your lap! If Everton some how manage to screw this up and fail to make so much as a dent in the American market, when they've had the heritage of Joe Max-Moore, Brian McBride, Tim Howard and the Fod- all as poster boys for the national team. Then , they should just come home, rip up their passports and go back to playing the likes of Tranmere, Preston and Merthyr Tydfil during their pre-seasons!! :@:@:@

Dear Everton FC,

I am not even a Manchester United fan, but as a fan of MLS, I have now already seen:

Man U's video promoting their summer tour
Man U's poster promoting their summer tour
Man U's dedicated website promoting their summer tour
Sir Alex's press visit promoting their summer tour
(Talk about a club that understands they want to build their American audience - their theme, big surprise, plays on the "United" part of "United States").

As a fan of Everton FC who frequents both websites, and who reads a lot about a certain American goalkeeper in your employ, I have seen this much about Everton's USA summer tour:

goose egg

Please fix.

Thanks.

My guess is that they're trying to finalize a second match before going into promotion overdrive (meaning a short entry on the OS)

There aren't that many teams at Man U's level, though. Plus they don't need to build confidence, or test themselves. They're Manchester United. They set the bar.

We on the other hand start slowly every year. We had a good preseason results-wise, as we were playing crap teams. The first good team we played beat us comfortably. I'd rather be losing to Wolfsburg though, than beating some third tier no marks.

We were also playing Beckford and Gueye and both were scoring!

Chester, Pa. (April 27, 2011) – Philadelphia Union today announced the team will host English Premier League club Everton FC on Wednesday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. EST, at PPL Park. The match, featuring U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper Tim Howard and Australian international Tim Cahill for Everton, is included in Union full season ticket packages at no additional cost.

Full season ticket holders will also be invited to attend Everton’s practice session at PPL Park on Tuesday, July 19. Five-time FA Cup champions and winners of nine top flight league titles in England, the Blues currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League, just five points behind local rivals Liverpool F.C.

“It’s our ongoing commitment to bring world-class international competition to Philadelphia,” said Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz. “We are very proud to host Everton in what will be a challenge for our club and a treat for our fans. We’re also thrilled to be able to include this match in our season ticket package to reward those who support the club week-in and week-out at PPL Park.”

To purchase additional tickets at the group rate, full season ticket holders will have access to a special online pre-sale on Wednesday, May 4, beginning at 10 a.m. Partial season ticket plan holders will have access to the online pre-sale on Friday, May 6, beginning at 10 a.m.

Individual tickets ranging in price from $25 for Supporters tickets to $50 for Midfield tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 9. Groups of 15 or more will receive a $5 discount per ticket and also have the option of creating a group combo pack that allows them to pair the Everton match with one regular season Union match for a $10 discounted ticket for both games.

The Toffees are led in goal by North Brunswick, N.J. native Howard, who, after starting his career in Major League Soccer with the NY/NJ MetroStars, moved to Manchester United in 2003. After three years at Old Trafford, Howard headed to Everton on loan in 2006 and made his move to Goodison Park permanent in February of 2007.

“Philadelphia Union are a fantastic club and I’m really looking forward to playing against them,” said Howard. “Nick Sakiewicz brought me through the ranks when I was younger, I’m friends with members of their coaching staff, and one of my best friends, Danny Califf, plays for them. It's a club whose results I always look out for and hope they do well.

“It will be a tough game for us. They're going to be in the mold of their manager, Peter Nowak. He's a tough, hard-nosed former Polish international who doesn't back down. I know for a fact from being very close to him that he expects nothing less from his team as well.”

PPL Park is the Toffees’ first stop on their United States tour. The English side will also visit D.C. United on July 23 at RFK Stadium.

Cary-carrying season ticket holders will have the game loaded on their season ticket card and those with printed tickets will have tickets for this match mailed to them at a later date.

I may have an extra pass to the practice session on Tuesday.
