Everton Summer transfers 2021

I would never spend that sort of money on a player in their late 20's who game is based on pace and counter attacking. There will be a drop off in his quality over the next few years. 2 years ago I would have been delighted with this, but now I wouldn't even consider it.

Palace were talking about crazy numbers like 70m recently, so I see no way they will now sell at 40m. I still think it takes over 50m and big wages and I just think it would be a transfer that shows we've learned nothing from recent mistakes.

He’s already slowed. Went clean through v Arsenal the other week last minute, if he scored it would have guaranteed we finished above them.
But some rank average Arsenal player (Chambers?) just caught him up and dispossessed him easily.

Zaha has missed the boat now.

He's 28 mate. In his prime. Comes 29 in November. Wed get 3 good seasons out of him. 40m and 3yr contract with option to add a year would be fine.

Sigurdsson MK II.

It's stupid because you're basically breaking the wage scale and calling it a transfer fee. If the player is 24, you have reason to believe you can recoup some of the transfer fee, or amortize it over a longer player if the deal really works out.

They never wanted it. They wanted to stay up, which was worth the transfer fee many, many times over.

Villa has done the same thing to Grealish. Spurs did the same thing to Kane in pursuit of the CL money.

Breaking through at a club outside of the major Prem powers has been kind of a bad career move for an English player in recent years. You're much better off doing what Pogba did and breaking through overseas, then returning on a massive English premium wage.
Eze is out now until 2022. Unless Zaha kicks up a major stink (which he's done the last 3 years and nothing has happened) they aren't going to sell their best player.

All about opinions mate. A 3 year deal at 40m and I'd be happy. He gives us something we don't have and need. He's good enough for Spurs to be interested, why not us? He'd improve us 100% and has at least 2 or 3 seasons at peak level. Would I rather see us sign a younger version of what Zaha can do, yes ofc but it's gonna cost alot more and probably have better clubs interested.

Not for me.

I looked back at the squad from 82-84 and was amazed how many in the 20-22 age range that we had.

Reid was one of the oldest ones at 26.

Given that we already have a load of octogenarians, I think we need younger players. If we don’t, we are storing up a huge problem when their contracts expire. No transfer fee but need replacing.

Mate I want us to buy players based on if they will help improve the squad and win us trophies not if they will recoup some of their transfer fee. We've plenty of youth and fringe players who get sold regularly and the occasional big sales like Lukaku.

A younger alternative will definitely not cost more than 50m + Zaha, IF we do our scouting and recuitment properly.

I just don't think the 40m figure is at all realistic. If we cannot find younger options with better value, then our recruitment is in a bad place.

I'd definitely prefer a younger option but I do think it would cost big bucks. Spurs apparently offered 40m for Zaha hence why I've said that. I think 50m starts getting into the area of too much risk for sure. As I said 40m + 3 year contract I think would be good business esp if we could arrange a deal with 25m up front and 15m in add ons
