If we play a back three, Zouma, Godfrey & Mina is tasty line up or even any of them in a 2
One of the problems with a back 3. Is if you dont have the correct players to play the system, you become a back 5 quite quickly.

The 2 wide CB’s have to be very comfortable being dragged out wide. Godfrey can cope, he also adds pace and running power, maybe needs to improve on the ball a bit. As they need to drive forward at times. And not just all 3 sit in a line. And the left sided would need to great technically, looking at the players we have. Keane in one of the wide roles will never work. Or Holgate who isn’t great on the ball IMO.

Looking at some of the best teams over the last few years who’ve used this system. Chelsea, Spurs under Poch, Pep now and again at city and England, though we’ve seen with Southgate his pragmatic style doesn’t help. But these teams have used a full back as one of the 3 CB’s. I think Digne could definitely play as the left CB’s if we had Godfrey right and Mina centre or a new top class CB.

I’ve said before I’m not sure Digne suits wing back, not fast enough or dynamic enough for me.

….totally agree. When we play with 3CBs it becomes a back 5.

Also, Digne is a more effective attacking force from a conventional full back position than he is when pushed further up the pitch.

i very much doubt we’ll play a system that incorporates 3 centre backs.

Would love to see nkounkou playing as a LWB. He’d worry me far too much as Lb in a back four without experience but he’s quick and able to go past players.

Rafael Benítez has informed the Everton board that he does not have Yerry Mina for next season, because he does not fit into his idea of the game and that he thinks he is a center-back who makes many individual mistakes. The first major dismissal of the Spanish coach since his arrival at Goodison Park.

Everton are working on planning their squad for next season, with the intention of taking a quality leap at the individual level to be able to compete against the best teams in England. The project got off to a strong start last summer with big signings, but now is the time to make sense of it despite the fact that Carlo Ancelotti's departure changed plans at the last minute.

Rafael Benítez wants to reinforce his defense for next season, which is why Yerry Mina would be the first dismissal. The Spaniard trusts that Michael Keane is the leader of the rear and that Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate are the substitutes, adding that they contribute versatility to the defense. The Colombian is the only one who would not fit in at the moment, and they would be looking for a new team for him next season.

Clement Lenglet, Benítez's target

The French center-back has become the target of the Toffee outfit. Lenglet is one of FC Barcelona's discards for the current summer transfer market, so his price is much lower than normal. His situation is more than complicated in Catalonia and he would also be interested in going out.

Benítez feels that the Frenchman can give him that extra ball output and that, with certain adjustments, he can be the dominant center-back who shone a couple of seasons ago. His performance dropped a lot this season with Ronald Koeman on the bench.
Big call that if true.
