We all got our warning with "Judge us at the end of the window" from FM. It's like the Gov. ghouls saying we'll probably announce something about cost of living crisis when the new PM is in post. It is possible (in fact sensible) to tackle a crisis before you're in the eye of the storm so to speak. Don't know why anyone trusts we'll fix our many issues in 2 days, and with a game tonight.

Frayed nerves par for the course now.

Nothing will get done tomorrow either.

All on Thursday.

Absolutely pointless in fretting before then, we can do so at leisure if the general reaction is either mild disappointment or outright fume.

Premier League clubs are set to face restrictions on spending on transfers and wages for the first time with England’s top flight looking to follow Uefa’s new financial rules.

Under Uefa’s new squad cost rule, which starts next year, clubs will be limited to spending 70 per cent of their revenue in a calendar year on player wages, transfers and agents fees — though any income from selling players will allow clubs to spend more.

The Premier League is looking to bring in a similar rule, but with a higher percentage in order to allow clubs to invest more to compete to get into Europe. Insiders say the first step is for the principle to be agreed by the member clubs and then to set out a phased introduction.

It could also be a part of an agreement with the EFL for more money handed out to three divisions below the top flight only on the basis that they agree to similar spending restrictions. Some Championship clubs already spend more than they receive in total revenues so they would have a tough task to comply if it was not phased in.
The Premier League has dominated the transfer market this summer compared to the rest of Europe, with record spending of £1.82 billion so far, but they should still retain a competitive advantage under the new system as the clubs’ revenues are much higher on average than their European rivals.
