Only need two starters at DM and CM before looking at squad players.

Ok mate, hypothetical, we sign two starting midfielders.

Richy goes otherwise we aren't signing two worth much ability wise, that instantly leaves us short a quality forward, one who can play several positions too. So replacement of starting quality then needed.

So that's minimum 3.

You have advocated gutting the cbs, meaning we'd need another 1 for sure - in your scenario that's more likely two more needed in reality.

At that point we'd now have an unproven Patterson and ageing not good enough Coleman as the only genuine RB options, no backup behind Mykolenko at lb as the young lad on loan showed he's not good enough by a way yet - likely won't ever be.

We'd have gotten rid of all experienced depth at cb, we'd be an injury short of being able to field a decent midfield again (you've advocated selling, Allan, Gomes and Davies) so in mid we'd have the two new players and Dacoure only, again no depth no genuine squad depth.

Up front we'd have Rondon and Simms as the only other forwards in the squad one fat and washed up and one whose never scored in anything better than a farmers league. So absolutely no squad depth there either.

And you think it's the correct point to start bringing in young players who'd likely cost a fair amount with very little likelihood of them being close to being ready to plsy at this level yet - given he looks set for a championship loan from a team no better than we are

If Richarlison leaves:

Pickford / Begovic
Mykolenko / Nkounkou
Godfrey / Holgate
Tarkowski / Branthwaite
Patterson / Coleman
??? / Davies
Doucoure / Iwobi
Dele / ???
Gordon / Gray
DCL / ???
??? / ???

What we would need would be:

DM
CM/AM
AM/WF
WF
CF

Cameron Archer already has 1/3 in the championship last season. Hes also scoring a goal a game for England u21s.

Lampard with u21 British players makes a lot of sense.

So basically we’d be paying money for a 22 year old replica of Andros Townsend, but current day Townsend, after his pace has gone.
Players like this are worth having, delivery from set pieces are crucial to us, especially with the height we have. Set pieces last year let us down continually.

….I wonder if our DoF makes as many lists as Zat.

Wow that team fills me with worry ...

I think Everton are purposely not doing business yet because of the accounts/FFP/P&S scenario. Our accounts for 21/22 close in 11 days and Everton will know what our financial position is and that will include the wages c£400k per week for the players being released on 30th. Any trading done after 30th June will go in the accounts for a year (22/23) WITHOUT those released players.

If that makes sense.
Depends if they can sell before then as well, making the accounts look better but I think we will definitely sell 1st

It's comical that *some* people forget that Pickford handed in 4 seasons of utter muck before finally handing in last season's decent form.
Well firstly, he didn’t “hand in 4 seasons of utter muck”.

He was very good in his first season, then had a couple of (somewhat) inconsistent seasons - where he varied between very good and making some poor errors (as most keepers do, tbf). Of course, the more recent the form, the more relevant it is.

It’s comedy gold that you’re saying you’d rather have a 23yr old who’s played FOUR league games in his career over England’s (comfortably) best goalkeeper, who’s been consistently good to excellent for us for a year and a half.

Four appearances lol

Never change, Dave

If we sell Gomes for £10 million and Kean to Juve for the £28 million (and surely mostly paid this year) we should be able to buy Zinchenko and another CM (not Choudhury!) And that's without selling Richy.

What is the situation with Kean exactly? Do Juve have an obligation to buy him for that amount? I intermittently forget he ever existed, and have read Juve are trying to find a buyer, West Ham mentioned, so assume they are trying to wriggle out of any deal themselves.

£28m that we know is coming, even in installments, is no small change for us and gives us more flexibility surely.
