Pre season game it may have been but was still an extremely worrying watch. Our lack of anything going forward was shocking, the continued use of 3 at the back when it's clear we are useless at it begs me to ask does FL actually watch the game
He was there,if he had his eyes closed is anyone's guess.

I really dont understand this comment...

“We have to play three at the back because of the group we have on the trip,” Lampard told evertontv.

Those 2 teams could have easily been successful 4 at the back formations, our best half of football was against Palace 2nd half when the CM was Alli, Doucoure and Iwobi. Against Newcastle we never looked like conceding that was Doucoure, Allan, Iwobi....

Given Thelwell built the 5 at the back base Wolves use and Franks Chelsea 5 at the back connections I think 100% this is the way its going until either we go down or Frank is sacked....

I hope not, sincerely I do, I want Frank to be a success because I like everything about him but on the pitch is where it is most important and he needs to be getting results on it. To me it looks like we are going down a route we cant change in the future, hopefully I`m wrong and we are strict 4-3-3.

The issue with the first half yesterday was our in ability to break Arsenal’s press. The defenders and midfielders were not good enough in playing in tight spaces.

Doucoure and Davies do not have the ability to pick the ball up in tight areas and find a pass.

This was purely fitness and minutes in the legs, hence the 11 changes at half time. The next game will be interesting

Yeah, the plan did seem to be bringing the press onto us but every time it went into midfield doucoure or Davies would just play it straight back to the centre half. Massively need a new centre mid.

We looked miles better in the second half when the young lad started turning with the ball and playing more progressively. It reminded me of what Davies was like when he first came through.

I dont think he feels he can play an effective midfield 3 while Allan is injured and before he gets a signing in that position.

I dont disagree with him. The squad is short of numbers or quality in every outfield position

If I grasp the difference? What a tit, if you follow me on Twitter or FB you can see my FA qualifications..... you can call it a back 3 but EVERY manager in the league knows you make that a back 5 by pinning your wingers high and wide!!!

If you look at the results and formations played, 4-3-3 is the system that suits these players best and is the system that gets more points so why does Frank keep going back for this 5 at the back monstrocity at every opportunity......

Are you seriously suggesting that in a 4-3-3 we would be shoehorning these players in to that system but not the 5-2-3? Absolute Chump, do you even watch our games or are you a kopite plant?
lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol
Its a fair kop guv, you got me bang to rights and no mistake. Im a self confess fan of both Roger The Dodger and St. John...you know The Saint, who was that crap we still sing about him 60yrs later.
Did I say You????
No I didn't.

I know what I am - what are you?

Act III, Scene II of Hamlet might apply here

Looks like he expanded elsewhere

"I would like to be a bit more flexible because at the minute we have to probably play a back three because of the personnel on this trip - a lot of centre halves and in midfield we don't really have natural holding midfielders to perhaps play three in midfield like Arsenal did tonight. So there are things that are a work in progress at the minute. My job is to focus on those parts - where can we bring in players to improve but also in training, where can we drill?"

I’m old enough to remember Arteta getting dogs abuse and Arsenal fans calling for his head.. (that was last season btw!) Point being things can change but it takes a bit of time. The comments from Lampard that should encourage fans are those where he is critical of the teams ability to play out from defence (first half) and secondly his comments on a preference for a 433 when personnel permit.

The guy is still a relative rookie but no manager gets a tune out of this squad without some key personnel upgrades. If he gets a couple of competent midfielders that can help transition the ball up the pitch then (imo) we would cause teams problems with our pace.

Id be far more concerned if he was Benitez-esque and this current system was his ideal.. but do admit that I’m a bit disappointed that the team isn’t showing more signs of what he wants us to be. Hopefully that will come with some better midfielders.

Is what it is at the moment, as it stands this is what we have.

We can`t seem to sign anyone, do we just accept relegation then, until we can get better players in or do we find a system that does work with what we have?

Lets be clear here, last season was the season we saw the 5 at the back the most and we finish in our lowest position in 20 years, playing 4 we have finished in the top half 13 times of the 18 seasons, even then those 4 seasons were 11th 3 times and 12th once, how has a team that was still in and around the top half now so dreadfully poor....

It comes down to being uncomfortable in certain systems i.e. 5 at the back nonsense.

This squad is still capable of more than what we are seeing but the manager has to help them with a formation that works....

I guess my 'timely reminder' yesterday morning fell on deaf ears with a number of you then lol ?‍♂️

You'd think we'd just lost a Premier League game ffs.

Would 433 work with say Doucoure Gomes Davies in the middle?

I really dont think so. Not against good opposition like Arsenal at least.

We need a new midfield player. It really all boils down to that.

I don`t know what I`m missing, because clearly I am, his preference is 4-3-3 but we are going to play 5 at the back all pre season until we sign new players which might not turn up until we are the best part of a month in to the season...

That doesn`t seem like joined up thinking to me.

Then we will go to the 4-3-3 which we haven`t trained and played?!?
