Mendy is a lot better than him.
It's not about stats... He's not very creative. His first thought isn't creating something for a team-mate, it's getting to the goal. That's absolutely fine, but having him as your main focal point to create is never going to work.
With VDB coming in, then there's going to be more room, hopefully, for Gray to work in and not as much onus on him or Gordon to be our only spark.
I mean tbf to Maddock, Pereira was going to be appointed. And Joyce and a few others also reporting 2.5 year deal for Lampard.

I just don’t see us getting Idrissa back, I’d love it but I don’t see it happening. I think if we do anymore business it might be a cash deal and for a defender or another midfielder

He wasn't the only one who reported Pereira because Pereira's camp (Kia) were pushing it. It's been a complete circus.

I'm not suggesting he is, btw, but he's not the only one that reported Pereira was set to be confirmed because, as of Tuesday/Wednesday (before he gave that mad interview), he very much was.
