Copied & Pasted for your pleasure;

Everton Football Club has agreed in principle a three-year deal with the Indian Football Association (IFA) to deliver a grassroots football programme in the state of Bengal.

The news is a further boost to the Blues’ expanding international portfolio, which already includes strong partnerships in South East Asia and North America.

The new deal will make Everton one of the first English Premier League clubs to conduct a partnership at such a dedicated and focused level in the East Indian territory.

The grassroots initiative will give youngsters an opportunity to be taught the same way as some of the Premier League’s current stars including Wayne Rooney, Leon Osman, Tony Hibbert, James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe through a programme that has been proven to deliver time and time again and one that is now available online at evertonway.com.

Chief Executive Keith Wyness said: “We are delighted to have agreed this new partnership with the Indian Football Association. It is currently an extremely exciting time for the game in India and hopefully our expertise at grassroots level can help shape the future of their game.

“I know the sport is becoming increasingly popular in the territory with over 30 million people watching Premier League football last season. Audiences at that level demonstrate a real appetite to adopt our established and proven methods and we are only too happy to be a part of that here at Everton.”

The IFA secretary Utpal Ganguli expressed tremendous optimism with the potential of the new arrangement and added: “This is fantastic news for everyone involved with the IFA and we expect this association will have dramatic effect on improving the quality of football in Bengal.”

Very interesting news.

Always wondered why a country with that size population couldn't put together at least a decent national squad.

I understand that it isn't near the most popular sport there but still....

They have a [Poor language removed] hot Kabaddi side though. Remember that on Channel 4. It was like British Bulldogs and Tick all rolled into one. Top sport.

and how does this help everton? Just seems like more expenditure we dont have? I understand the recognition it brings to the club, but I just dont see the big picture of how it actually helps the club apart from exposure which they would get anywhay with the prem there?

the people over there are loaded apparently, swanning round in bentleys with nothing better to do than buy replica shirts.

i like the program if it helps player development (too lazy to read the first post honestly)

i'm indian by heritage (american by birth), so it'd be nice to have a decent national team. with a billion people, there's gotta be some talent out there, shouldn't be hard to find 11 footballers.

doesn't help that most of them can't [Poor language removed] afford boots. when you're workin all day as a kid to feed your family, footy kinda takes a back seat. of course a lot of other countries are in the same position and can still throw together a decent side, so donno how valid that argument is.

I'm an indian.......true that crickets the main sport here but there r loads of football fans....its just that no one turns pro...
Besides, im 14 ...so am i eligible??
