Been watching since the mid 80's and there's not many that fit the criteria to be honest. So starting from memory and hoping the arl grey matter still works -
Gary Lineker - can honestly say that my young chubby cheeks were wet with tears. I had just watched him score for fun, against so called big teams, in important games. Pace to burn and always in the right place. Here was my version of that lots Ian Rush. Could have won the double in his first season, but Lady Luck wasn't kind that year. Watched the World Cup and buzzed every time Lineker cane up with an Everton tag.
Derek Mountfield - great centre half who also knew how to score goals, sometimes important goals. Didn't see eye to eye with Mr Kendall and was eventually shipped out to Villa. Great team at the time but eventually his career declined.
Gary Stevens and Trevor Steven - done the business for us,won trophies, regular England Internationals, performed week in week out. Only sold because English clubs were banned from Europe. Went on to win trophies at Glasgow Rangers.
Don Hutchison - ok he played for the dark side but even so he gave his all for us, especially when we were poor. Captain, scored goals, got stuck in. Was peeved off when we let him go to Sunderland.
Gary Speed - watched this little beaut score against us on the opening day of the season at Goodison, in a championship winning team.....when Nev sat against the post at half time. The little Welsh git was an Evertonian as well....didn't like him for that, but was made up when he turned up at Goodison. Always great for a goal and from midfielders that is a bonus. Gutted to see him leave for the sunny shores of Newcastle. Admit I joined in the chants and not happy over that, but if he wasn't such a good player I wouldn't have been ar$ed. Now upstairs with fellow Everton greats such as Dean, Lawton, Catterick, Lawton and Ball.
Duncan Ferguson - sold behind the managers back by Peter Johnston. Not prolific in front of goal but always got stuck in, injuries, playing for a crap team. Why sell him when he was our inspiration at times? Returned to the beautiful Goodison Park and it was ding ding round two, plus a cheerful song about his pigeons. Go ed Big Dunc, even handed over some meff of a burglar to the Bizzies...what a gent
Matteo Ferrari and Marco Matterrazi - purchased from the Italian leagues and both totally different types of players. Ferrari although slight I thought was a really good player and deserves to be taken on. Money spoke I assume or injuries, eventually released back to Italy
Matterazi - well impressed with his displays, big tall lanky snide of an Italian, but you could tell he had class. Scored a back heel at Goodison, how many cultured centre halves have done that? Then proceeded to get sent off and in typical Mediterranean style passion, decided to sit down near the family enclosure and cry his eyes out. Went on to star for Inter Milan and become a World Cup Winner.
So that's it, but please keep in mind that all of the above should have been sold eventually, I mean could you imagine Tricky Trev trying to get down the wing with the skill and silky momentum some 30 years later. Still be better than McGeady though
