Moyes to offer £15m and Valencia for Baines as Spurs and Chelsea join race, United to make January Barkley move

Everton's transfer speculation today focuses Manchester United's renewed attempts to lure Leighton Baines to Old Trafford.

Reports suggest United will offer Everton £15million plus Antonio Valencia in the January transfer window in a fresh attempt to sign Baines.

United boss David Moyes is more convinced than ever he needs a top left-back after spending his first two months scrutinising the squad.

Patrice Evra was poor in the Manchester derby defeat three weeks ago while his understudy, Alex Buttner, is not considered up to the job.

Moyes had a joint £36m bid for Marouane Fellaini and Baines turned down in the summer and later split the offer so the Belgian could join on his own.

But with the England defender so far stalling on Everton's attempts to get him to sign a new contract, Moyes is keen to try again ( The Mail ).

Reports at the weekend also suggest Tottenham and Chelsea will rival United for Baines in January.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is also monitoring the Baines saga and could be willing to enter the bidding now that chairman Daniel Levy has thrown off the financial shackles. Spurs signed seven players in the summer but still want a striker and a left-back

Nice piece, mate! You should apply to become a football journalist.

Rather he went to Spurs or Chelsea, maybe we can use him as part of a Lukaku deal if he is to go, can see Spurs spending big this Jan again

Valencia was decent for a couple of seasons, but he's been average now, past his peak and same age as Baines too.

But £15m + him is very close to the £16m half of us would accept in January without the extra player. I'm still not convinced, as Valencia isn't just costing £1m, he's costing £40k per week too.

Can't see him going to the same club as Ashley Cole, he won't be interested in Spurs, can't see City coming n for him, so I think it is only going to be United who will be after him.

Mmm so whichever football journalist has re-hashed this one doesn't get his article proof-read. If the Manchester derby was '3 weeks ago' then this article was written, er, at least 6 weeks ago. Poor.

I'd prefer:
Howard
Coleman Jags Martins-Indi Baines
Mirallas McCarthy Defour Pienaar
Barkley
Lukaku

That'd be boss.

Defour all night long mate, can check the archives for how long and vocal ive been about getting him in like, a centre mid with goals in him a great touch and killer through ball, would feel very confident of top 4 with just adding him alone to the squad
