Everton and VAR

Obviously the whole match has been overshadowed by the horrific injury to Gomes but that was such a poorly officiated match. Twice in two weeks VAR has cost us - Atkinson should never referee an Everton game again

You can’t even just single Atkinson out, not a single referee in the country can actually do their job. Paid £100k+ a year to do a job that they cannot do. Fat little gimps running round trying to keep pace with super fit 20-odd year old athletes, blowing a whistle when they feel like it, pay me half of their wage and I’ll do that. There is no skill involved in being a referee, none whatsoever.

It still baffles me that Sky are involved in the Premier League, and still allowed to take bets on it. This is a serious conflict of interest.

How can a company broadcasting 24/7 about the Premier League, with rumours about who will be the next manager to lose his job etc, and then benefit from the public betting on the same rumours they are spreading?

It also doesn’t do any harm for viewing figures, which translates in to subscription fees.

I do not think they are influencing the decision making process with regards to single instances, but I do believe they are influencing decisions, that will in turn influence where teams will finish in the Premier League. It is in their interest for televised games to not be dead rubber. Would it not boost the viewing figures for a big fish like Everton to be scrapping for survival, instead of just battling it out for 7th?

It has been mentioned a few times that the match day experience is suffering because of both the delays and silence with VAR. We are not far from the day that all premier league games will be live broadcasts - 1 Friday, 4 Saturday, 4 Sunday, 1 Monday- Who does that suit?

Who can provide real time analysis of the decision making process with regards to VAR - In the comfort of your own home? That’s what is happening here. VAR is a broadcasters dream.

Is there corruption in the Premier League? If you’d asked me that a year ago, I would have said no. I am now struggling to justify the decisions being made at almost every level of the game, to give the same answer.

They think they’re part of the “cast” of the premier league. They love the controversy and they prove it every single week.

The only thing they’re scared of is the so called big clubs complaining about them and them getting themselves a demotion

You don’t see referees decisions dominating the championship every week yet every single week in the premier league it’s all about them and their decisions.

What happened to retroactive diving bans? oh yeah , there’s only been 2 dives in the premier league in the last 2 years. No, they’ve all thrown a massive strip and nothing’s being done.

If any single one of them had a single ounce of backbone they would be booking players left right and centre for crowding them on decisions/dissent but they don’t and the behaviour continues.

Put mics on them immediately or sack them. It can’t continue.

Think refs think they are as famous as the footballers on the pitch. They always want to be in the spot light.

The Delli Alli handball still utterly baffles me.

Arguably we could have another penalty on richarlison although I can accept that call cause it's soft.

But it's a clear red for Sanchez on richarlison after the equaliser.

That's 2 shocking decisions and a 50 50 went against us. We are crap but it's hard to be succesful with serious injuries and clueless biased officials.

I hate var. Have always hated var. And always will hate var. It's a new form of manipulation.

My concern is that VAR gives a route into the game for corruption. There are protocols in place in the game to prevent officiaolsl from travelling alone before and after the game (Clattenburg fell foul of it once), but I'm not aware that any such protocols are in place for VAR. For all we know, they could be sending/receiving texts all through the game, or have live in play betting up on screen. I'm not saying they do, but there is nothing to say they don't. We have asked for many yearss for REf to ref to common sense. That's been removed entirely now.

I am one that does not buy the corruption line, but nevertheless, your post is correct in that the sheer lack of transparency will do nothing to quell such opinions.

Unless I have missed something, it appears to be totally unaccountable, and veers from one stance to another (penalties for example) with no improvement in the decisions. It worked pretty well in the WC, so the blue print is in place, but no, the PL being the PL ( or that ref group thing) have decided to not use the pitch side screens, not let the fans know what is going on, with this chaos that ALL fans are getting fed right up with.

I can’t believe that anyone is surprised that VAR in the Premier League is failing, and it is failing (!), like it is! The person in charge of it and it’s roll out in the PL is Mike Riley one of the worst referees ever to have disgraced a football field!
