Transfer Rumour Evan Ferguson

He cost £45m and had scored 5 premier league goals in 37 games when we bought him. A guy who scores 15 goals costs at least £80m.
Hello mate, but he clearly had potential, no? And the original poster did say around the £40m mark.

£80m for a 10-15 goal scorer?

How much did some of these cost? Nowhere near £80m. It's possible if you shop right. Which is our downfall in recent times. Bums like Beto and Maupay.

Edit: I don't even think we are fundamentally disagreeing here. We need better than what we've signed recently. It's tough, but possible.

But that’s missing the point. How much did he cost Watford? Thats the point I was trying to make earlier. Other clubs sign them for cheaper and then we wait until they have a good showing and media hyped and offer them tonnes of money.

We need to change the setup and starting getting the players before they make their first move to the PL like Brighton do, like Brentford seem to do etc.
We got Stones and Branthwaite cheaply. Think of it this way. There’s maybe 200 strikers to look that are cheap and young. All clubs are looking at the same players. Only 3 or 4 of them may go on to be decent players worth £40m. We have the same information as anyone else. Why do you think we can pick the best prospect over anyone else. Watford got lucky.

If a striker scores 15 plus goals in the EPL there club will want £80m for them. I’m not saying only £80m players will score 15 goals but when you buy them they will be unproven otherwise they would cost £80m. Do you think we can afford any of the players in that list? Cole Palmer went for £50m and had barely played a first team game.

We have a new hero in Ndiaye, would nice to have a big centre forward hero crashing goals in consistently, I don't believe those days are gone if we have the right people looking in the right places.
Surely we can find and bring kids through the ranks also, I think we've been sleeping in that department in recent years.
Time for a roots and branch shake up to put our club back up there where we belong I stead of rummaging in the bargain bin.

I wasn't saying that at all more, look at what they were brought for and they performed. Smart recruiting my man.

Better than buying a Beto who clearly can't trap cement or a Maupay.

Which appears to be at the heart of whatever argument you appear to be having.

So teams that manage to find players for cheaper value that go on to do well annd be worth more are just lucky? Brighton are just lucky with their repeated recruitment? Brentford have just been lucky? Why can they pick the best prospect over anyone else?

What a weird way to look at it.

Do you think that Ferguson is still within that group of 200 strikers that may go on to be worth £40m?

Apparently smart recruitment signing them for cheaper before they have made another move to the PL is down to luck mate.

If there is no quality striker in by the close of window then we might aswell realise that premier lge survival is the remit even in the long term.

Doesn’t it. A striker that is consistently scoring 15 goals in the league is costing £80m.

Well we’re not going to be after any strikers that are consistently scoring 15 in the Premier League are we. But that’s not to say there aren’t players in other leagues that could score 15 and wouldn’t cost us £80m.

How much did Mbeumo cost Brentford?
How much did Mateta cost Palace?
How much did Delap cost Ipswich?
How much did Watkins cost Villa?
How much did Bowen cost West Ham?
How much did Kluivert cost Bournemouth?

Do you want me to continue?

Yeah but they were all signed purely by luck mate.

In that scenario it'd be the priority in the summer, when we'd have a lot of scope for investment in the squad.
