European trophies are a mess

Tell that to

Djurgardens, who on their way to the SF of the conference league last season, hadn't made it to a QF in a European Competition since 1955-56.

Or to Rayo Vallecano, who'd never even made a final in any competition prior to last night.

Olympiacos had never won a European pot prior to their win 2 seasons ago.

I don't think you'll see Larne, TNS, Shamrock, Shelbourne, Lincoln or Hamrum qualifying for any other competition.

UEFA are known for terrible, terrible calls, but the decision to stop teams dropping down decisions is the best thing they've done in years.

All the gravitas of a participation trophy these days. The news of Palace winning it (I didn't even know they were in it!) Was half way down the bbc app as a single line.

Wish we could go back to the 80s/90s style lnockouts before the stupid leagues - when even being in it meant something.

How crap do you need to be to be not in europe today?

Oh.

They feel a bit like when companies give someone a fancy sounding new job title instead of a pay rise. Yes, football is increasingly bifurcated, and we're shovelling more and more money to the wealthy clubs that win everything, but here's a trophy to shut you up.
