If United win the cup does the European place go to the league position or the cup runner up?

We need City to win the cup and finish 5th thats our only hope.

If the winner of the FA Cup finishes in 5TH PLACE ONLY in the league, then 6th place in the league gets Europa next season.[ so city need to win cup and FINISH 5TH ONLY [not 1st/2nd/3rd/4th]to make 6th a euro place]

If the winner of the FA Cup finishes in the top 4 (CL positions) then the runner up in the FA Cup gets the Europa spot next season. -which means if man utd beat city whoever they play in final BOLTON/STOKE GET THE EURO PLACE,

so when man utd beat city [thats what i expect] it will finally mean 6th place is nothing in league

A quick look at the table shows Spurs 3 points behind City with a game in hand. Not impossible. and United are without Rooney too...

I've been thinking about this a lot and, on consideration, I think I'd rather we didn't make Europe if the only alternative is for City win the cup.

Thats what ive been thinking like funny enough-probably some have,it would be just typical for it to benefit them,but as said think man utd will beat city-so 6th will mean nothing

If the lower leagues can have promotion play-offs then how about European play-offs,

7th play 10 th - match1
8th play 9th - match2

then 5th v winners of match1
6th v winners match2

if only 1 place available then they have to meet to play a 'final.'

of course this will all have to be done and dusted before anything important like the UEFA Dupont Trophy or La Fenetre d'auto.

I think a playoff is an interesting concept, but we have too many games already, when would we play the extra games? To me it's just not practical. I think the Europa league needs an overhaul. How can the English league only get 3 places in the Europa league, but get 4 champions league places?! Our league is so strong we should get 4 CL places and 4 Europa League places.

Regarding the playoff idea, I think the only way to do that would be to drop out if the league cup or make it an under 21 competition, so that the first team aren't affected with more games

you can do a playoff but with less games. Just take the team that would get the last (or only) spot due to League finish. Have the two teams below them play a match, with the winner playing the team already in the slot for the eurpoa spot. Or just have the team in the slot play the team below them. For instance, if Spurs would get the last Europa spot, have us play the RS, for the right to play Spurs for the spot, or just have Spurs play the 6th place team for it.
