Europa League

I think this is the 5th time I've posted this.

1.) The FA Cup winners will qualify for the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League providing they have not already qualified for a Champions' League place.

2.)If the winners have qualified for the Champions League, then the runners-up qualify for the Europa League.

3.)If the runners-up have already qualified for the Champions League or the Europa League, the highest placed team in the Premier League standings who have yet to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League would qualify for the Europa League.

No Europe for us.

Where's that from, mate?

Not including the possible fair play spot though?

That is correct as it stood last season i'm 100% sure.

Howevere there seems to be some doubt this season as to whether if the FA Cup winners qualify for Europe via the league the last Europa League place goes to the runners up or to 6th place in the league.

But i've not seen anything in writing from neither an offical or even a made up newspaper headline saying the runners up DONT qualify so i'm still going on how the rules were.

And that is that Stoke or Bolton will take the last Europa League place as FA cup runners up after Birmingham for the Carling Cup and *whoever* for 5th place.

so simply its the top 5 + league cup winners + winner/runners up in the fa cup.

soooooooo to get into europe - we need to beat man utd , man city and chelsea , aswell as win the other 3 games id usually expect us to win , while at the same time hope that spurs lose most of there last games.

game on.

That is interesting Billycooper, good find! Players want to play at the end of the day. I think his game and size suits the Prem League, so on that logic it would only be the top teams that may turn his head. I wouldn't like to say if Chelsea will even have the same manager come May....United have large debts and it would be interesting to see if he really is a top target for them....arsenal...this new guy is trying to buy out the club so it remains to be seen what is happening there...City...perhaps..doesn't Dejong play there? Suppose if he did move there we could get top dollar.... if I was Everton I'd earge him to sign a new deal, see where we are in a year or two, highlight we could still finish in the top 6 and if he wants to move in a few seasons at least we will get a higher premium for him. He hasn't actually said he wants to leave, only his Dad and I personally don't know if that is the media twisting things anyway. It is such a horrid thing to say but him and Rodwell getting injured may just take the limelight off them and stop clubs sniffing around them. Hope he is here this time next year, but as they say, watch this space...

United spent 27 million last summer and recouped 13.5 million. The summer before they spent 13m but brought in 85m. Their transfer fees are still very large by our standards but there have only been three players in the last decade that they've spent over 25 million on: Berbatov, Rooney and Ferdinand. Their average transfer fee over the last 3 years is closer to 7m. Due to the clubs debts, I would be surprised if they broke the bank in the close season. Plus, they already have Carrick, Gibson, Scholes, Anderson, Giggs, Fletcher and Hargreaves operating in central midfield. For me I think it would make sense for them to sign Charlie Adam.

Chelsea might be an option, but I'd expect them to prioritise sorting their strike force out. Would they play Fellaini ahead of Essien, Lampard or golden boy Ramires?

Money wouldn't be an issue for City, but they have De Jong, Barry, Vieira, YaYa and Kompany capable of playing there already.

Real have Alonso and Khedira keeping Diarra out of the side. Would his style of play suit the Primera anyway?

I don't think that the role that he plays is enough of a priority at the moment for the major european clubs to come calling.

Billy you speak a lot of sense mate. I agree with everything you wrote. Perhaps City could do with him after last nights epic fail at the darkside. As it has been said earlier Madrid are supposedly sniffing around, yet there are rumblings Mourinho may not even be there next season and neither will Mancini at this rate....or Ancelotti. I guess it is still too early to say. Big Fella, the safe bet is Everton! The future is bright the future is blue!

Cheers! I think we'll all agree that he's an excellent player who will get better still and deserves to be playing football at the highest level. If you were part of the Chelsea management structure looking at what to do next you'd probably think that Drogba's influence is fading and that a younger player needs to be brought in who could compliment Torres. Neymar seems to fit the bill. You're then probably going to want to look at bringing in a wide man, on the right at least. Nobody immediately springs to mind. After that, you might look at a couple of younger players to bring down the average age of the squad. They do have emerging talent though, so they might decide to promote from within. If they were going to spend on a central midfielder you'd imagine that it would be someone offensively-minded to eventually replace Lampard.

I think that City could do with shipping quite a lot of players out: Given, Onouha, Etuhu, Wright-Phillips, Jo, Balotelli, Bridge, Bellamy, Adebayor, Caicedo and Santa Cruz. Their strike force definitely needs some work and you'd imagine that they'd bring in at least a couple of forwards. They could also do with a playmaker. Sneijder would be perfect for them. Wide areas also need improvement. Possibly too centreback. One of the strongest areas of the side is actually defensive midfield.

Real could be a possible destination. They spent over 80m last summer, so they've still got money. They're not overloaded with defensive midfielders. Diarra is rumoured to be on his way and I don't think that Khedira has especially stood out. According to the Spanish press we've quoted them 25m euro. It's quite feasible. I think we could squeeze them for more money though. If he's going to go, we ideally want a bidding war between the super rich clubs. Perhaps City would buy him just to prevent Real from strengthening? They've been shown to stockpile players and to decide later what to do with them.
