I reckon the last game vs Arsenal could be the fight for 6th place and the difference between going straight in or undergoing qualifications.

Arsenal have United next, they'll lose most likely. Then Soton away, then Stoke away and Sunderland before us.

That's 4 games in 2 weeks. I expect them to drop points and get 6-7 pts max. If that happens, they'll be on 66-67 pts, 8-9 above us.

We have very winnable games(Swans/Watford) before we play Arsenal. 9 possible points, which would put us 1 above Arsenal. We have to up our GD in case they get 7 pts.

It's a stretch but it's a possibility. Arsenal are in shambles. I've watched their last 4 games and ANY decently organised Prem team will tear them apart.
I was thinking about this earlier.

Arsenal have five games left to play, the fifth and final one being against us on the 21st of May. The remaining four ALL take place between 7th and 16th of May - four games in ten days. We could well be in a great position to snatch 6th place from them on the final day, provided we do the business against Swansea and Watford.

Yes it is possible but also bear in mind that if they win the FA Cup they are ranked ahead of us for Europa qualifying purposes.

The problem is that we're a side (Club) that at the moment can't do what is needed when it matters in situations like this. I personally think Arsenal will be more than 3 points ahead of us going in to the last game so it won't matter anyway, but just looking at our own fixtures in order for us to finish ahead of them....

2 of our last 3 games are away from home. We'd have to win those 2 away games when we have only won away 4 times all season. Both of those away matches are against tough opposition. Swansea due to being in a relegation battle, Arsenal as they're a top 6 side. Since beating Palace in January we've gone to places we thought should be a good chance of 3 points and we've not been able to take all 3 points. Boro, Stoke, West Ham.

Regarding Arsenal, we'd have to go and achieve something we haven't done for 21 years. Our last win there was 1996, obviously never won at the Emirates.

We would have to win 3 games in a row. We have only done that once this season (West Brom, Yeovil, Stoke, Sunderland and Boro). Arsenal on the other hand have achieved that 5 times this season already.

As soon as 4th is secured for the RS their fans and media machines will go into overdrive about how they could win it. In an easier competition, there won't be a single blue looking to win the Europa, that sadly is the difference between the two clubs currently.

But all that proves is that they're a deluded set of fans, whilst ours realistically don't expect to win based on the reality that we won't be the best team in the competition, haven't won a trophy for 22 years, and have only won one European Trophy in our entire history which happened to be with arguably our best ever team.

Our fans have no bearing whatsoever on the performances of the team in terms of winning key matches or trophies. And neither do theirs.

I remember you were one of the most vocal on here about your disgust at our derby record after the most recent defeat which I agreed entirely with. For me it's an attitude and inferiority that needs to be changed from within the club, from the owners and management down to the players.

The fans can't do much more. We've sold out every home game this season and all but one away (a mid week trip to Sunderland). We take thousands away in Europe but it really don't equate to results on the pitch. We had 7,000 in Lisbon and got beat 5-0. We had about 8,000 in Lille and it was one of the most boring matches I can remember for years.

We need winners to take us far in competitions like the Europa League. As good as they've been for us, those players are not the likes of Baines and Jagielka and over time we should hopefully bring in those players with a winning mentality. I think Schneiderlin is an example of one of those players needed.

It wasn't a dig at the fans. It's a reflection, like you said, of the state of the clubs. Their fans know that people in their club including players and management are thinking 'this is where we belong, no reason we can't win it'. Our fans know full well that it's highly doubtful that anyone in the club is thinking 'let's win the Europa, we're good enough to do it'.

OK fair enough. It's funny you mention that actually as this quote from Jagielka stood out for me earlier today:

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2017/05/01/jags-excited-by-euro-return

“That’s part and parcel of us giving them something back. It’s an expensive hobby to come and watch your team these days and if we can give the fans a couple of special nights, that’s great."

It's probably me being cynical but I thought that gave off the suggestion that we're just happy to be there rather than having any intention of going far which backs up what you've said.

He's always been a terrible spokesperson for the club. He actually had the ability to be a top 4 player but always had the mindset of best of the rest is good enough. He's the captain as well. If he's still captain next season nothing will change.
