Just saw the result. So an all English final, won by a Russian team where one English player appeared for 15 minutes against a United Statsian team with one English player starting.

Which is why I don't follow "English teams" in Europe anymore.

A fair point - and obviously if it were us I'd be wanting the win, irrespective . I find it sad though that the English league has sold its soul and identity. When I was growing up I'd support any English team in Europe. The club names are the same but they're not English teams any more and I can't get interested in them.

If I show an interest it might be to want eg a Spanish team mainly filled with Spanish players to win, or Italian etc. A team or league proud of its own identity.

It's hard to cheer on mercenaries.

It's easy for people to make claims about what our fans would do but if we were in that Final it would be a novelty for our fanbase. Arsenal fans have been to finals in recent years, and loads more European aways. Some of them fans will have already been to that Stadium when they played Qarabag last October.

If Arsenal can't even sell 2/3rds of their allocation, with their global fanbase being significantly bigger than ours, then there is no way in the same circumstances we'd have sold more.

I think we’ve got a really solid fan base, one of the best travelling supports in the country. But let’s not delude ourselves here, that season we got Europa Group for a second straight year, and we had Athens, Borisov, we never took boatloads (definitely pun intended on BATE side) to them.

The reality is, would we have sold out? 1000000%, but if you think every lad under the sun who’s goes the game, is travelling for potentially a week, at High prices, you’re mistaken.

I think what people are obviously neglecting is that Azerbaijan is a European Country, which meant it had every right to apply for the final. Thankfully, it’s flopped, in a devastating fashion, which ultimately will make UEFA and FIFA think that Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia should only be used for a lesser significant comp like the Super Cup, or not at all.

Euro 2020 will be fun for the fans of the sides who get Baku and Rome!

They finished 5th and got to a Euro final. That's an improvement on last season

Arsenal were very poor last night. Chelsea didn't really have to play that well to beat that Arsenal team. Chelsea v Spurs in the Super Cup will be nice.

That was still mostly Wenger's (very flaky) team to be honest. Harsh to judge Emery on just one season when Wenger failed for more than 10.

Wenger won 3 FA cups in the 10 year period of ‘failure’ you’re talking about and got to a league cup final and Europa league semi as well as almost continuous qualification for the CL. If that’s failure then I’d love that to happen to Everton.

Compared to us it's not failure obviously. But compared to the rest of the "Top 6" or whatever you want to call them, or to compare them to Arsenal before Wenger got stale, then yes its failure.
