Euro2020 Knock Out Rounds

The British should be able to win this Euros, given that the semis/final will be held in Wembley. I said this few weeks ago that England have a great chance to win this and I was laughed at. It's more of a shock why they haven't won this tournament yet considering garbage like Denmark and Greece have won this before.

Could say the same for Everton and our lack of a domestic trophy since '95 when Birmingham City, Wigan, Middlesboro, Portsmouth, Swansea etc have triumphed - only one team wins it and it's never easy, the above exceptions to the norm.

Search your feelings you know it to be true. Yes it's great getting to the biggest stage, to have those moments getting to a final, the excitement building up to the match. But if you get bummed in it, those goals will be constantly shown over and over again years after the event. You'll wish you went out in the semi/quarter/round of 16 where the spotlight is a little bit less and you can't say well if we had just won one more game we would have been champions.

No that's wrong, reaching the World Cup semi Vs Germany in the 90's when Lineker scored and Gazza was exceptional is still thought a fine achievement, as was the unexpected semi at the last world cup

Not one bit angry mate, I'm giving you my personal view as someone who was at Wembley in 2009 and at the full time whistle I wish I wasn't.

I also didn't say England are going to lose, I just picked up on your message giving it some and I gave you an honest response to it. Of course to win something you have to get to the final so they're the chances you take, but I wouldn't believe you if you said going out in the semi would be the same as losing in the final. It just isn't because it's down to that one game where you get the trophy at the end of it, one win is all that it takes. The build up from Wednesday to Sunday will be frenzied, like from now to Wednesday x 10.

No one knows what is going to happen in a football match of relatively even teams, the opposition could get two red cards within the first 5 minutes and it might be a cake walk, so no one can say England are going to lose if they get to the final. However we all know it will be a step up and England will have to overcome the personal demons of being in a similar position and coming up short before. Much like Belgium who can swot teams aside out of a tournament but when it really matters they couldn't.
When was the last time England reached the final of a major competitiin,? 1966?

Although noone (or very few) will remember watching it, the precedents are good, there won't be any baggage about finals and they've beaten Germany, Belgium and Spain relatively recently. Most of this side aren't the same players who've come up short before, their memories are mostly the last world cup or the following decent Nations cup campaign when they beat Spain away from home

Can't blame @emir lots of Eastern languages call Brits as English. Turkish, Serbian, Greek, Romanian as far as I'm aware.

When Johnson arrives for bilateral meeting in the country, a Serb would say, English PM has arrived Belgrade. It is depressing to hear for Brits (mainly Scots, Irish etc) but it's what happens in the language when it comes to countries like those so detached from the island. as emir is Bosniak, I can see why he posted so initially.

Absolutely. The linguistic history of our Island is complex - however, English has become the lingua franca of not only the British Isles but the entire world.

If emir is a Bosniak he won’t speak the same language as every other ‘Slav’ of that region. But he will speak a slavic language?

This is a fantastic way to console yourself. Very Evertonianesque. I’ll try this some time.

In the meantime, I’m absolutely loving life and you’re all absolutely seething and typing angry paragraphs on the internet.
To be honest I would have put my post in the non england supporters thread but last time I checked it was locked due to cryarseing by england fans saying “look at us … look at us … love us please “

Where did I say it wasn't a decent achievement? My point was the final is for the winners and despair for the losers (while being a fantastic achievement to get that far).

As you say they've got to the semi's of the World Cup and Nations League and fallen short, that is recent and raw. It may drive them on but it can also add on top of the already hefty weight of expectation.

Look the tournament will unfold how it will unfold, they may storm to win it, the home advantage is massive and can only be a positive. You are right they have recently beaten a fair few decent sides so in that aspect it might not be the same as time gone by and there are not any stand out teams left.

The Nations league semi followed English teams having all four of the four semi finalists in both Europe's major club competitions. The scheduling meant England had to do with all of their players from the top English club teams, this providing Southgate with the option of fielding a heavily understrength team in the semis. Even so only a controversial VAR decision denied them progression but the reserves will remember an incredible achievement to get so close.

Tbh (not so much a criticism of your post but others) it's the unrelenting negativity and anti English sentiments from so many on here that gets very wearing after a time, so many follow the inane (and rather crass) mantra of 'Scouse not English' as if it's edgy - but on here the reverse is true and you're edgier going against the crowd not with it.
