Euro2020 Knock Out Rounds

Southgate could fall into the trap of giving the German's too much respect in a very Moyes-like manner

Germany are a good side and should be treated with respect of course, but England should feel confident that they can give anyone a game with their squad

He needs to loosen the shackles a bit I think

Am I out to lunch on that or do others agree with me?
I agree that England shouldn't give them too much respect. But also think playing defensively might not be a bad strategy looking at Germany's group games. The only team to play expansively against them got leathered.

As a German, I gotta say, if England runs at our back three relentlessly theres no way we're gonna withstand that pressure. If England plays the same uninspired football as they have for the majority of the group stage, then we'll have an epic battle of two uninspired, risk-averse teams and we're in for a snoozer. On paper, I think the situation favours England. But the mentality is so unpredictable with that lot and I think the mentality will decide things today. Good luck!

I think England will play a back three expecting Germany to in order to match it. So for me the thing to do for the Germans would be to surprise them and go 4-3-3 instead. I don't think they will, but I think it would create some interesting problems for the English if it went that way.

My mood is weird at the moment.

When you look at the squads you can easily argue that England have the better on paper, however, it is all about the team that is put out. Southgate needs to be a bit braver than expected and we should win. By being braver he will be playing the younger players who have no previous in these games, they should be fearless. The likes of Grealish, Foden, Sancho, Bellingham don't know the meaning of fear and just go about playing the game itself and the individual situations.

There is a big part of my brain, however, that is saying 'Do not get your hopes up, nothing changes and everything will happen like it has a ton of times before'.

Southgate will end out hopes with his wonky team selection and tactics as usual.

Why not just pick our best team and let them have a go?
Hamstrung from the first kick.
Ingerland would be much better off with Bentez in charge. It's not too late to swap... just saying..
