Romania impressed me earlier on today. Played with confidence and some ability in that team. Demolished a useful Croatia side. Hagi is class.

My bet on Italy is doing well as France and England don’t worry me too much after tonight.

There isn't enough defensively for him to play there long term but I think he could possibly play as sort of a deeper playmaker and be effective

Deffo. Some of the best deep playmakers started as attacking midfielders (Kroos, Modric, Pirlo etc). Not saying Dowell will be as good as them obvs

50 MIL 50 MIL WAN BISAKA, 50 MIL 50 MIL I SAY.

Dreadful
Yes, I'm sure that his value is based on just his last game. He's an excellent full back who has had an excellent season against all comers. The stats don't lie. I would imagine, as a young fella, the pressure of all the speculation would have got to him a bit. We could cut him a bit of slack. Two poor games in c40 is not bad.
But no! Pile in. "EEZ BLUDY SHYTE LID!" Enjoy.:coffee:

Im sure as fun as you are at parties my friend it was just a joke.

Jokes aside tho his attacking play is lacking and his final ball is woeful. To me he seems to hark back to the Tony Hibbert school of defending where tackling comes before being an attacking threat.
In a world where you can pick up a Digne for 18mil, purported 50 mil for Wan Bisaka seems like overkill to me.

Crazy to think of some of the players France could have taken but didn’t: Mbappe, Coman, Pavard, Hernandez brothers, Ndombele, Diop, Saint-Maximin, Mukiele, Zagadou, Augustin, Nkunku etc.

If this isn’t a golden generation (or 5) I don’t know what is.

Looked like he was always going to make the wrong decision all night, thought that DeSilva was crap as well.

Think the whole back 4 looked shaky all night, Clarke Salter is in there purely on the basis he is a Chelsea player but not done nothing at all in the mens game when they have Kelly, Konsa availible who have both had good seasons, Mason Holgate was also still elligible for this tournament but they would prefer someone who bombed at Sunderland and had to be farmed out to Vitesse for a year.
Dury is still out on Tomori too

Dowell might start as the 6 next game. Would be good to see him there
I thought he may have started this game there. He's been playing there in previous U21 games and done well. It's an area where we are short in the squad with Davies and Cook missing. I've never rated Choudhury when I've seen him at this level and, as I said, his sending off changed the game.

I know you feel the same as I do about Boothroyd as a coach. I feel he made a mistake leaving Lookman out of the squad as he's a game changer. He's also picked a lot of young players in the squad and most of the players they will be up against will be 22/23 and that makes a difference, especially when you are missing your captain and midfield inspiration in Lewis Cook.

I know you can call it blue tinted glasses, but both Dowell and Kenny have a lot of tournament experience. The players who took their positions were directly responsible for last nights defeat, and the manager has to take ultimate responsibility for that.

It's still not too late. Two decent wins can see them get the best runners up spot. Choudhury will be banned for the last 2 group games so, unless he plays a defender out of position, you would assume Dowell will get his chance.

Yeah I guess he'll get a go although I've been reading it could be Gibbs-White. Either way they'll be an improvement on Choudhury in terms of distribution. Choudhury was only passing sideways and backwards yesterday. He does give more defensive cover though. Cook is a big miss.

I do have issues with Boothroyd. I was starting to warm to him yesterday but normal balance was restored by the end lol

I like Gibbs-White and think he's a fine footballer. But he doesn't play the holding role and he'd be yet another teenager in the starting ranks. At least Dowell has a number of games in that position for the U21s against very decent opposition like Germany and Italy. He completely ran a game against Scotland from that position.

Yeah. Basically gave up hope of actually winning the competition when I realised Cook wasn't going to be fit. He's so influential. But, despite the loss yesterday I was actually heartened by some aspects of the performance against France, who are my favourites to win it. We could and should have won that had Boothroyd picked the right team. We have a top class keeper, a solid central defence partnership, and some quality players like Foden and Maddison. If we find the right balance we can get through to the semis, and then we have a lot of players in the squad who have been there before.

As regards the age of the squad, 2 years ago we had 11 outfield players who were aged 22/23 and just 3 aged 19/20. This time we have 4 outfield players aged 22, and 7 aged 19/20. It does make a difference at this level. Having said that, I also believe there is more quality in this squad.

Just for the record England got absolutely battered yesterday after half time. Yes the red card caused that but that's part of the game and not every team gives up chance after chance the second they go down to 10. Poor showing and France should have won a lot easier.
