He's in a three way race with Italy, France and Malta. The problem the first two have is they don't have to qualify, so no semi final performance to familarise viewers with. If I was punting my own money I would take France (just) over Italy. The French song has shades of Piaf about it, the Italian entry doesn't tick enough boxes for me.

The main thing the Italians have in a field of slower solo ballads is being upbeat and a touch more dynamic. But the value is in the e/w market and wait until tonight's second semi final is in the books before getting involved.

Also, if he took 9/4 about Italy for the Euros he needs someone to monitor his account.

I don't actually think they're as bad as perceived.

Soucek, Coufal, Schick and Darida are half decent, they're not great, but will Scotland lose home "advantage", if they're playing in a 1/4 full stadium?

Had a great World Cup bet in 2018 where it was no 0-0s at a stupid price, went ages before being let down. Will do something similar closer to the start

It's probably a question of familiarity breeding contempt, but they have that knack of conceding soft goals while having to work really hard to make anything happen at the other end. Schick is wasted in this team, he's almost a 1 goal per 2 games at international level, lovely player to watch and I do like a left footed striker. Trouble is he flatters to deceive and can go missing easily.

I understand the bet, I just think in the first game of the tournament the Czechs will be too obliging and off the pace. If they would play Scotland second I would be more confident.

Backed England and Belgium on the basis that both prices will come in before the tournament starts so I'll lay them then.

Italy at 13/1 overall looks decent for the same plan. Good chance they turn Turkey over in the first game and that price drops.

I reckon the Scots might surprise in the group - not necessarily finish top but I can see a solid grafter like Che Adams having a Hal Robson-Kanu for Wales style tournament.

It's not difficult to believe that one of England or Croatia come in half baked. There are always surprisingly poor starts from one or two big sides at these tournaments. Denmark and Senegal going through the WC stage in 2002 at the expense of Uruguay and France sticks in the memory...Jesus, nearly 20 years ago!

It was a funny one, that 2002 tournament, didn't really get into it, probably my least favourite World Cup. Felt fixed, you know?
