EURO 2020 - England Squad

There's absolutely no way on this earth Jordan Henderson won't be in the squad by the way. Will probably be captain too if Kane isn't fit.
I agree.

But I thought we were picking our team, not the one Southgate will pick.

No way can I see James, Saka, Holgate, Foden, Grealish and DCL being near the squad, never mind the starting XI.

I didn't explain that well. The talk is Rashford could be back soon and have a couple months to get fit. Kane is supposedly looking at the end of April which is considerably less time. So I put Rashford in as I think it's more likely he will be ready at this point.

Rashford would be a world beater if he left them lot. He would bang them in in somewhere like Italy or Spain. Kane benefits from Spurs style a lot. Same reason Lampard got so many for Chelsea, the system supported them getting shots off/tap-ins.

Lampard was world class though.

At least I don't have Henderson in my team. Surprised you don't have him down as captain too.

And Grealish starting? Three at the back? Sancho ahead of Rashford?
Sancho is miles better than Rashford. I'd try to get them in the same team but if it is down to those two for LW it's Sancho.

Think DCL has a chance, or he really should have at least, ditto Grealish. Agree, year or two too soon for the others.

Rashford always shows up for England. If anyone's place is under threat from Sancho on current form I think it might be Sterling.

Here's my go

GK: Pickford
RB: Alexander- Arnold
DC- Gomez
DC- Maguire
DL - McNeil
DM- Henderson
MC- Oxlade Chamberlain
MC - Mount
FR -Sancho
CF- Kane
FL- Sterling

Rest of Squad

Henderson
Pope
Trippier
Mings
Chilwell
Tarkowski
Winks
Rice
Grealsih
Barkley
Rashford
Calvert Lewin

Now alot of it will get questioned obviously, but there are players in the back up that will get in due to being able to play multiple positions (Mings, Rice), you would argue that could be a reason for Southgate to pick Holgate, but i can see him going with someone he knows better! others because Southgate has consistantly picked them (Rice, Barkley, Winks)
I've also gone abit crazy but im convinced Dwight McNeil would be a top left back for a really good club, his running from deep is exactly how an attacking full back does it, but obviously being at Burnley, his starting position is deeper than most wingers, if tyou watch him im convinced City should snap him up and convert him.
Didnt put Rashford in starting xi because it would be a risk playing 2 unfit players (Kane)

Now now, actual thought went into my team unlike yours...

I want 3 at the back because I think it helps defend better against international teams where a lot play with 2-3 forwards plus AWB will help when Trent gets exposed. Henderson is actually underrated and he has the leadership and discpline to hold things down - I'd like better but England are so short in the middle. Grealish is class, enough said. Sancho has far more x-factor than Rashford.

You've picked Ox who hardly ever starts for them and hasn't had much impact, Foden's played about 18 minutes, STONESSSSSS?! Saka whilst exciting isn't as good as Chilwell all round right now.

Pickford
Henderson
Foster ( get him out of retirement)

alexander Arnold
Walker
Maguire
Mings
Stones
Chilwell
Rose

sancho
Oxlade chamberlain
Rice
Maddison
Grealish
Alli
Dier

kane
Rashford
Sterling
DCL
Vardy (best English PL striker, call him up Gareth ffs)

Ox has been good every game he’s played, if only we had him

Vardy retired from international football, nothing to do with Southgate not picking him

Yeg because he was probably fed up of being on the bench, but Gareth should give him the call, better than all our other options, kane will be played and won't be fit, I don't think Rashford is the player vardy is yet

I agree with you on the midfield and that for me is why I can't get on board the "England are favourites" train. We don't have a settled midfield and the fact that Henderson and Rice have been so heavily involved is a damning indictment. There are also a lot of question marks over the defence IMO.
I have no idea what Winks or Rice actually do, and I hope they're not in the XI (assume they'll both be in the squad). But we're not exactly bursting at the seams with quality midfield options. We could pick about 18 full backs though.
Although not individually the best around, there’s a potential for a good blend in that midfield 3, as long as Declan Rice is nowhere near it. Interested to see how Grealish could fit in there.
Grealish has to play too IMO. Big game temperament, won’t shrink under pressure, creative. All well and good having an embarrassment of attacking riches but if they have Henderson and Rice behind them they won’t be seeing the ball

Declan Rice only turned 21 in Jan...very highly rated by the media (yes i know!), West Ham fans seem to love him and hes got in the England side with 7 caps already.

Now im not sure if hes going to be any good...but in a similar way to Henderson couldnt he simply be a stable consistent 7/10 player (like his whoscored rating) with alot of upside?

Havent seen him a great deal...but not sure why he gets so much stick?
