Nymzee

Player Valuation: £150m
Found this little XI picker on Sky Sports and wondered what everyone thought? Or just write down your starting XI for the first game under the assumption everyone is fit for it on time.

I’ll just write mine because the Sky thing has players stuck in positions I don’t want.

Hendo1
AWB Maguire Holgate
TAA Hendo2 Grealish Chilwell
Sancho Kane Sterling

More Hendo needed.

Aussies are planning to add the Copa America to our trophy cabinet this year.

Which when you look at which nation has been more successful in recent modern football history it's no surprise England were not invited.

Heads off to Google to see if Australia have won whatever the Australasian equivalent of the Euros for about 10 years in a row and that somehow they're top 5 in the rankings.

Fingers crossed you make the same comment about the Eurovision song contest.

Wholly fulfilled lives have been born, lived, grown old and died having never seen England win anything they’ve entered.

You’re an international punchline.

My first choice XI would be 433:

Henderson
TAA Gomez Maguire Chilwell
Winks
Ox Grealish
Sterling Kane Rashford

Edit: apparently I can't format properly. But it's meant to be a standard 433

This would be my 23-man squad:

GK: Henderson, Pickford, Pope
Def: TAA, Trippier, Chilwell, Saka, Gomez, Maguire, Holgate, Smalling
Mid: Winks, Ox, Grealish, Mount, Phillips, Maddison
Fwd: Kane, Sterling, Sancho, Rashford, Abraham or DCL, Greenwood

Come at me

Pickford genuinely shouldn't even be automatically in the squad he's been that bad. I imagine he will be though, with Henderson and Pope.

I wouldn't pick Kane unless he gets back and actually plays well with Spurs. DCL and Abraham have actually been better this season than Kane has and when you throw in that he's coming back from a major injury he just can't be an automatic starter. Striker is actually a tough one because someone like Ings has a real claim for a spot.

The midfield is England's weak spot. I know that the last few weeks Henderson has suddenly become the best player in the world but the reality is they'll be outgunned potentially against Croatia and definitely in the later round games against the likes of Germany/Italy/Spain etc. I see a couple people listing Grealish there but they'd have to be very smart about how they cover for him if they do that. God help you all if Declan Rice is involved.

Anyway this is what I'd go for at the moment:

-------------Henderson--------------
TAA--Maguire--Gomez--Chilwell
--------Henderson--Winks---------
Sancho------Grealish------Raheem
----------------Rashford---------------

Striker is very up in the air. If Kane is fit and firing it is him. If Rashford gets back and plays well I'd go for him. If neither do then it goes to DCL or Abraham. It could be any of them.

Why is Rashford in the XI? Does he not fall under your reasoning for not putting Kane in there?

I agree with you on the midfield and that for me is why I can't get on board the "England are favourites" train. We don't have a settled midfield and the fact that Henderson and Rice have been so heavily involved is a damning indictment. There are also a lot of question marks over the defence IMO.
