you claiming that containers could still come here from France
Canyou provide evidence that containers cannot come from France. Reading bbc and sky it says containers which make up 80% of traffic are allowed. If that's wrong I will admit the mistake and blame the bbc and sky.

The decision by France to close its border with the UK seemed an "odd" decision, said Richard Burnett, head of the Road Haulage Association, given freight had been flowing throughout the pandemic.

"Right the way through the pandemic we've had this principle where all the borders have remained open to critical freight, to ensure that food and medical supplies continue to move," he told BBC Radio 5 Live's Wake Up to Money programme.

"We've had to manage different strains and different issues... We've worked very hard over the last nine months to ensure that the borders have been kept open, to keep that flow of products going.

"I understand that we want to try to contain the spread, but I think we've done that in a very practical way as a logistics industry, across Europe, throughout this year.

"It's going to be a pretty frustrating, miserable existence for the next 48 hours," he said.

Wonder if our French allies have a motive for suddenly doing this. After all this variant of which there have been 17 variants sofar is already in eu countries

the channel tunnel is closed, as is Dover - unless they float across themselves they aren’t getting here

You maybe right about that.but my point was that containers are still allowed. Dover isn't the only port in the uk. Anyway my main point was the scare story about supermarkets running out. No way will that happen

Fresh produce is far more likely to be shipped accompanied freight than on a container.

Even if that wasn't the case, surely you don't think the UK could afford to lose 20% of it's food supply ?

And, on the subject of containers. No use having containers if there are no drivers, which there aren't. Nationwide driver shortage due to Christmas, Brexit, and now this on top. If you're a driver who works over Europe you'd be hedging your bets and steering well clear of the UK right now.
20% is obviously a lot to lose. But even if the scare story is true food wise we will survive.
You obviously know a lot more about containers and drivers than me. My main point is that this was another scare story now its being reported that the French will sort it out in hours

its not a scare story if it needed sorting out though - it’s like rain being forecast and then getting soaked and then accusing the weather folk of causing worry

We will agree to disagree then. For me the scare story is that there will be food shortages when it will be sorted pretty soon.

it can’t be a made up problem if it’s not been fixed yet - the issue absolutely exists and must be fixed or we will quickly be in a very dark place indeed
